Venturing out of my normal forum for a change so hi all!

This question is really on behalf of a friend who's having a bit of trouble with his MKII MR2 N/A...

Basically he bought it as a non runner needing some work done to it and has consequently spent the last few weeks sorting out the bodywork, underbody and engine and had got it just about ready to go for an MOT. I say had because he then took it for a quick blast up the road to check everything was running ok and the engine suddenly started making some dodgy noises - clunks and knocks and such. After doing some tests he is pretty sure something fairly catastrophic has happened to the bottom end and would rather swap the engine than fix it. So rather than replace it with another NA lump he would quite like to stick a turbo in and have some fun with it but so far is having some trouble finding such an engine to go in fairly cheaply. So does anyone know where he might find a MR2 turbo engine to transplant? Ideally as close to Birmingham as possible!

Thanks,

Nick

Get him to chat to these guys:

They rebuild engines or may even have an engine knocking around

It's hardly a straight swap. You need a new coil, igniter, ECU, gearbox and other misc bits depending which year engine you put in there. Really would be better to rebuild the bottom end, sell it on and buy a proper turbo - that car has clearly had a hard life.

Thanks for the info guys, sounds like its going to have to either be rebuilt or swapped for a turbo model!

Alternatively, Rogue, the other self confessed MR2 specialists are only in Kenilworth so a fait bit closer.

They do transplant packages also, but watch out for the sodding great guard dogs. hehe

It's a lot easier just to buy a turbo model to begin with, there is a lot of plumbing for the turbo engine
