Hi All,

I've found a job with O-Bit Telecom that i'm thinking about applying for.

Has any one heard of them before? They are rated number 26 out of the top 100 Tech Companies in the UK (Sunday Times rating).

It seems like a very small but rapidly expanding company based about 25miles from me.

Before I send in my CV I want to research the company as much as I can but google isn't returning a huge amount.

Many Thanks,
Phill

Never heard of them, but am guessing they're small but currently (or were) rising, hence the FT Top Tech rating..

A slight word of warning is that the Top Tech 100 is "Tech Track 100 ranks Britain's fastest-growing private tech companies based on 2006-2007 sales growth." i.e. if they only make £100,000 worth of sales in 2005 and then £400,000 in 2006 that gives them a 300% growth in sales.. So sounds good, but isn't necessarily such a big thing!

Location wise sounds good! I guess the best thing is to talk to them and go along! Esp. if the role matches your skillset. If they do well you should do well. Stock options? but not too many!!

I've been involved with another Top Tech company before and one that is now on the FTSE250.. Choose your options wisely! If they've got contracts in place and good contacts they'll do well, if not they could falter and shed employees...

Most of the above is opinion and not fact, just trying to help tho!!

Is it a permanent or contract position?

It's a permanent position for a Telecom Account Manager.

My skillset matchs what they are after (Telesales experiences) although I am lacking industry experience.

The description reads as follows:

"To further develop an existing client base in a competitive market. Identifying new business opportunities within the current client base and ensuring our customer needs and expectations are met on a daily basis.

This position would suit a candidate looking to progress their career within sales who has experience in a field / telesales environment. Customer contact will be crucial to this role with site visits to customer sites that are based nationally. The successful candidate will benefit from an excellent training and development plan with the full support from the experienced sales manager"

Responsibilities:

  • Development of existing customers
  • Account Management
  • Launching new products to existing clients
  • Meeting monthly targets
Requirements:

  • A proven desire to succeed and develop skills Check
  • Outstanding communication and influencing skills Check
  • Outgoing personality, good sense of humour Check
  • Self motivated and enthusiastic Check
  • Planning, managing and achieving results Check
Desirable:

  • Telecommunication Industry Experience
  • Field / Telesales Experience Check
It appears to be a very good role from which I could gain a lot of valuable experience (i'm coming up 25 and only 18 months out of uni) for a very good salary with a company that appears to be doing very well.

I would give it a shot - even if the worst happens you may have learnt many useful skills in a fast growing company....

Agreed - if you're young enough - just make sure you try and structure what you're doing, even if the company doesn't - it will hold you in good stead for later on / promotion / other companies etc..

Well I put my CV in on Thursday night (via email) along with a covering email.

I had an email back saying that the contact was out of the office until Friday afternoon so now i'm in the waiting game!

Just slightly nerve racking!

Tip top - gives you enough time to do a little more investigating in to the company and what you're going to say/ask..

I didn't really have a lot of time at the weekend so i'm going to spend tonight doing as much research as I can. I already have a few ideas of some questions I'd like to ask.

I may run them by you if thats ok? Always good to make sure i'm on the right track! The more I think about it, I want this role!!
