I would have searched for previous threads but the search engine is under maintenance at present.

So - Can anyone help??

I have an MOT due soon and have booked the car for Saturday morning. The only thing I am aware of is the switch for the fog lights has been stuck in since I got the car this time last year. If I try to press the switch nothing happens (The switch does not press in nor do any fog lights work).

What approach should I take to this to fix the issue and get through the MOT.

Has anyone had this issue before and could they recommend a solution?
Cheers

Phil.

To get to the switch, take the radio out and it will reveal 4 self tappers which will release the panel.

You might be able to strip down the button/switch and try and free it up

Thanks for that.

I'll have a look at the bible when I get a chance. Is this a job that's most likely to go right (within reason)or does it often result in new panel needed?

The veneered panel is fairly tough, although watch around the radio when that comes out as it is the most likely lift the veneer off. The self tappers go into two thin resin pillars either side DIN cutout and looked like a bit of weak point as well, so careful screwing those back in.

The switch is on a ribbon cable, so note which way up it is before unplugging it. Switch assy can then be removed and you can see what the problem is.

How do I get the actual radio out in the first place?

you need some release keys, which depend on what make of radio you have.

Halfords do them for a fiver or so, but dont do all the makes. My local fitter offered to pop it out (o err) for ten quid. But in the end I used two strips of plastic cut from a DVD box to get my Pioneer out.
