my bonnet catch has stopped locking. i've had a quick look and even trying it manual ( fingers underneath) it only catches hald the time, and then just tapping the release cable causes it to pop. What is the part and where do you get them from?
any help is much appreciated, please bear in mind my skills with spanner are limited to dropping it on my foot!

I had the same problem,it was the inner sticking in the outer sleeve(giving the impression the catch was knackered),new cable cured that one for an MGB GT then cut to lengthwink.

thanks, but when i check the cable there is absolutely no tension on it, and the bit that is pulls is fully towards the left ( away from where the cable pulls it. I just assumed that the catch had worn

Sounds like the latch is either to low or there is to much tension, have a play round adjusting first before buying anything.

It's a ford part if you clean it up you should see the code.
My guess it's the cable try releasing the cable and pull it in and out of the sleeve to see if it snags.

I've had a similar problem and thought is was the catch rather than the lock. However, while at the TVR Centre I had the cable readjusted and it has worked fine since then.

Test the catch with a screw-driver and if it seems to work (as much as you can tell) then it is probably the cable. Try adjusting the nut at the end of the cable.

Even though mine works now, I will be replacing my cable soon. TVRcarparts, clever-trevor, and TVRshop among others sell replacement cables.

Steve.

I had a similar problem a while ago.
From memory, i would go and take a picture, but it's raining again.
It was a small catch underneath which locks the main catch when the bonnet is shut, this moves out of the way and releases the main catch when you pull the bonnet release.
it was all gunked up and didn't move back to lock the catch. i can't remember if it had a spring on it, but i gave it a good WD40ing and kept pressing the catch in and out until it freed up. smash
mine also has a plastic sleeve on the catch-pin on the bonnet.
you haven't lost yours have you ? confused

I doubt you'll get one anywhere apart from TVR breakers but they would sell you the whole catch.
Nylon tube from B&Q my guess.

It looks like a piece of clear plastic piping - the type used for example as a fuel line on a lawn mower (tank to carb) or similar equipment where low pressure fuel delivery is required. Nick.

It's a hard piece of pipe that slides over the Ford part - I would guess about 2 millimetres thick tube. Assuming the catch is the same as the Griff.

Have you tried pushing the catch in with the side of a screw driver or a spanner !!?, to see if it does actually lock in position ?
