Beetle Cabrio TDi or 1.6

Hi Guys,
Am buying a beetle cabriolet for her in doors and it seems to have come down to ywo engine options : 1.9 TDi or 1.6 petrol.
Does any one have an opinion about which one to go for?
I seem to recall a road test mentioning the 1.6 as being sluggish with the roof down?
Any opions would be great.
