New 5ltr Chimaera Owner

Collected my first TVR just over two weeks ago - 5ltr Chimaera. Got it on a sunny Saturday and have done 1200 very enjoyable and mostly roof-down miles since. Managed a whopping 25 mpg on a trip to Surrey the day I collected it. Best I've managed since is 16mpg, but the driving has been mostly on Yorkshire B roads and is getting progressively more "enthusiastic"...

Have fitted the ally column bits etc from Leven. Really helpful people there, doddle to fit the stuff & really tops off the interior. Feel great too & I really recommend them.

Oh and reliability. Having had numerous tales of woe from several know-alls I've been getting a bit cocky after 2 weeks of perfect motoring...


...until I noticed a totally sodden drivers side floor this morning. Arse and feck.

I did 20 miles in driving heavy rain Monday & Tuesday & suspect from other posts here that some seals are a bit suspect on the drivers side of the bulkhead (the roof is definately fine) so it will be a trip back to Christopher Neil's if I can't sort it quickly myself tomorrow.

That aside, a top motor. All I expected and more.

Finally just want to thank all who contribute to this forum. The knowledge I've gleaned from you all over the last few weeks really convinced me about TVR ownership and helped me enormously in sussing out what to look out for and what to be aware of in ownership. Thanks everyone.

there, glad your enjoying your TVR experience long may it last.

Safe driving, take that 5 ltr very easy in the wet, and most of all keep it shiny side up.

If its any consolation, after the downpours on Mon/Tue my Audi A8 started acting the fool, dashboard warning lights flashing all over like Blackpool illuminations. Turns out that the rain is getting into the sealed box containing the ECU etc under the bonnet.

I'm used to one or two leaks on my Chim 500, but it ain't just TVR's!

Cheers folks. I'm certainly keeping it very steady in the rain and plan to get some Ride Drive tuition when diary & bank balance allow.

Will also post a photo. When I get round to it...

PS Even more water this morning - I had taken the drivers floor carpet out yesterday & the water was a good inch deep under the pedal box - gulp. Made a call to Christopher Neil's who couldn't have been more helpful. They've told me to bring it in they'll sort it whilst I wait. Hopefully that will be the end of it. Meantime, carpets out & newspapers in!

Try a spray called "FABREEZE" Available from most good supermarkets this will stop your interior smelling when its dryed out top stuff Tony
