Even though I am extremely pleased , that my new 1992 Esprit SE highwing has power steering & S4 door handles & trim...I am also slightly confused . The car was registered in March of that year , being number 353 , yet I have seen later cars with earlier spec` .It also has , what I believe is called the carbon fibre trim & various after market gadgets , like electric front & rear boot releases - no coat hanger for me .

The power steering is the biggest puzzle...as I understand you cannot just add that on, as the chassis is different for the mountings of the rack.

The body being in white , looks great with the high wing ( for a change)& oval vents , & everything tallies with the 1992 chassis number & service history etc .

Can anyone shed any light , or have any ideas ?

Yours interestingly,

Esprit Novice .

It must have been one of the last of the SE's then.. lotus probably ran out of SE parts and started fitting some of the S4 parts. I saw your car on autotrader.. looks nice. Send Kato some pics and get yourself an owners page on lotusespritworld.com

cheers

Tell us more about the electric front & rear boot releases

I didn't know any Esprits had such sofistication & I've owned four of them.

I'd really like to know about the power steering! Apparently there are some chassis differences (as well as several other parts, which make it too much of a pain to attempt adding to an SE.
Checking the chassis/body in that area. It would be interesting to see if there are any differences between the stock SE and the newer PS equipped versions on yours.

Slightly O/T, but are you in the UK?

Only I saw a white High wing going South bound on the M6 the other day, and I've never seen one before in the flesh.

Oh, and I'm intrested in the electronic releases too!

Hi Rob ,

Sorry , I`m a novice with computers as well , so I hope this comes thru` correctly & consequently it may be sometime before I sort out an owners page .

I don`t know if it is one of the last SEs , there are certainly cars reg`d in 1993 but it would be interesting to know what the last chassis numbers were . Mine is obviously an early 1992 and it`s engine number relates to june 1991 , so I would be surprised if it is one of the last . Can any other late SE owners clarify the situation ?

I do like it in white ... in fact I prefer it to the S4 because the high wing gives more intention than what I feel is , a "slipped" wing on the 4 and of course I`ve got the goodies as well .

Cheers Paul.

Hi John ,

SJ Sportscars seemed to be aware of their aftermarket existance but didn`t seem to rate them ( so he may know more ).

All I know is , there is a button under the steering column that releases a new type of jaw housing for the front boot ( much easier than the norm`, which I always felt "poxy" & apparently carries thru` to the V8 disappointingly )and the rear switch is in addition to the manual handle which is retained as back up . To be honest , I haven`t had time yet to study the car yet but will do in due course , if it will stop raining !

Cheers Paul.

Hi John ,

Not me...I came down the A1 . You can still probably see a picture of my car on the autotrader .co.uk for sale site .

In my investigations so far , one of it`s Lotus service dealers "believes" it was a Lotus development car...but I am awaiting a reply from Lotus at the moment for the build spec` etc . Other than that , I can only guess someone spent some idle money upgrading it .

Anyway I like it .

Cheers Paul.
