The British Weather

So over the last few days I’ve be doing loads of miles in the heavy rain – Monday night with the Gallardo and last night with the 430

I have to say that much as I like the 430, it really is “all over the place” when you hit standing water on the motorway.
The Gallardo in contrast feels really sold over the water.
My only complaint with the Lambo is the stupid design (probably just on the Spyder) that mean that the water pours onto you when you open the door in the heavy rain

I would prefer to use another 4wd Audi for poor weather, and keep the 430 for sunny days!

Sarnie was saying the F430 he currently has isn't the best during wet weather.

I have never noticed the water pouring onto you bit though but mine is obviously a coupe???

I've had a 430 for the last week or so and really really dislike it. I've had the rear wheels spinning all the way upto the 3rd gear in the recent weather. The backend even stepped out at the weekend on a straight dual carriageway. its at the point now where I don't feel 100% confident that I'm not going to end up backwards in a hedge. And the noise is just awful, sounds like a diesel transit.....Not a patch on my Tubi decatted G. Even when my G was standard it sounded better than the 430.....

A proper supercar - one that keeps you on your toes. Bit boring if they just go straight all the time ?

I am not a fan of the Ferrari V8 sound, tbh, Tubi or otherwise, either.

As for rear wheels spinning, in the wet, your best bet is to think you're on ice all the time and get used to its limits, otherwise it will hurt you and it is, contrary to your opinion, your fault. It's what I like about RWD cars, though. You are in control.

Doug, my old Gallardo coupe had that unique 'drench the front seat and door skins when opening the doors in the rain' feature too.

Porsche 996/997's are even worse for doing it!

is the stability in water between the two cars not more to do with the tyres rather than anything else ??

Both cars are very nice and I wish I had the chance to drive both for an amount of time to be in the same situation whereby I could judge both properly!!

I appreciate that the wheels spinning is my fault. I just don't like it. I want to drive, fast, in a straight line without fear of ending up facing the other way. Don't get me wrong, RWD is more involving but I just don't feel safe in it in wet conditions. I could obviously drive slower but wheres the fun in that?

Cant you switch the manettino setting to 'ice' if the conditions are bad?

Yes, and the gearbox changes up automatically at much lower revs as a result of this. Which makes for a w@nk drive really

Even on "snow/ice" the 430 is not as stable as the Gallardo

IMO the problem is when you are in the fast lane and there is standing water so that only the inside wheels go through it
The Lambo has no problem with this, the 430 does
It can't be the tyres because I'm nearly through my second set on the Lambo weepingweeping

Yes you can but I haven't driven it in bad conditions. Even light rain causes problems, well for me anyway.

The fun is in going sideways, not going fast. They don't have sideways GATSOs, yet. thumbup
