We are thinking of adding this to the list of cars to look at this weekend, does any body know the car or owner? Any constructive comments? smile
Thanks Tony

I went to see that car before buying mine.

It drove nicely, and sounded great. It's got a good history, altho not been serviced in over a year iirc.

The things that put me off were:
-damp/musky smelling interior
-bodywork (big bonnet crack, scratches on most panels)
-big (6&quotwink tear in the hood

As I say - if you can put your eyes past the bodywork, then its probably a nice car. It drove better than my one.

Say £350 for a new hood? £350 for a bonnett respray, new seals on the doors £100 (could just be the leaking roof makes it smell? thats £800

Offer him £6300 cash and you may have done well???

take someone with you to check the outriggers, unless you know what to look for of course??

good luck.

Ad says no offers so check if he means it before you travel any distance to see it.

Those are pretty major flaws yet the ad says nothing about any of them - quite the reverse in fact - just watch out for his labrador.

I'd say it was quite concerning if those faults aren't mentionned - I'd be pretty pissed off if I went to see a car and the seller hadn't told me about things like that in advance...

Especially as he states 'it's Probably the best well maintained Chimaera available for under ten grand.'

To me maintenance is everything on the car not just mechanicals. With the price of Chims in freefall at the meoment for under 10k mate theres cars out there a hundred times better than yours!!!

To the OP - the right car will come along though 7k or under doesn't leave a massive amount of choice.

Had a couple of rust holes in the chassis, outriggers were OK, looks like stones had wedged between sill and the main front to back tubular section, and rusted through, the damage was worse than expected and the rest of the paint work was poor and interior grubby, the photos were taken when he first bought it IMO, i tried to ring you from the viewing to talk about it.

Out of interest, do you think the comments are fair re: tears in the roof etc?

If so, in all honesty I would say put them in the ad, you will be far more likely to sell it. I tend to overstate all the problems with any car I have for sale, simply because I know I don't like to arrive to discover lots of issues, so I will point out over the phone all little snags etc.. and that way people who come along are fully aware, and more likely to actually buy (we rarely have more than 2-3 people view any of our cars before they are sold).

I think you've got the wrong end of the stick.

My car is a red one, the one we're talking about here is a silver one.. and it was me who said about the faults!

Well, Tony (T66ORA) was enquiring about the car for my girlfriend and I as we fancied a taste of TVR ownership (ideally a Griff but you don't win em all)
Thanks to those that helped, we bought the car yesterday. I agree the bodywork isn't mint exactly, but the marks and imperfections aren't actually all that glaringly obvious so overall I'm happy. Body can be sorted, we were worried about mechanicals and this one definately seems good. Never driven another Chim (only a 4.0 Tuscan....different kettle of fish!) so I don't know how well it goes or feels, but I can't put anything down on it other than I think the stepper is playing up a bit as the engine hunts at around 1500rpm when you stop at a junction before returning to idle about 5-10secs later.

Just finally happy we found a way into TVR ownership biggrin

As Tony said, thanks for the info mate. I was wondering what had been done to the exhaust as I know they sound brutal as standard, but this is on another level! biggrin
