I might get the DMS treatment on mine. How much are they charging?

£550 - £750 depending on how generous they are feeling.

Well worth it regardless of which figure they charge IMO yes

And I trust you ordered the 'SAT'? (sports automatic transmission)

Better had otherwise you'll regret it if you ever drive one that has it!

Whats the difference from the 'normal' auto? Addition of paddles on the steering?

I did order it and at the time it was just £70 seems very low!

I think its the addition of the paddles and a quicker box? can't remember as I ordered it 4 months ago.

Quicker box? Don't they all have a sports button for that?
I guess it is really just the addition of paddles then. Why don't BMW just call it what it really is 'Paddles on Steering' or something that makes any sense!!!

Anyway, to the op-nice car and DMS are great. They came over to Kent and did a mates 335d for about £500. If the map gets wiped off by the dealer during a serivce they will come again for £150 or if you go over there they will re-do it FOC.
The difference is astounding. Drive it for a bit without the remap just so that you can fully appreciate the difference!
Just keep some change aside for lots of sets of rear tyres....

The SAT is a lot more than paddles on the steering wheel.

Whilst the paddles can be used at any time in any mode and I'll try to explain how it all works.

D Mode

Hit the paddles and the gearbox goes into manual for a short while and then reverts back to D. Good if you want to drop a couple of cogs and not wait for the gearbox to do it itself.

Sport Mode (moving the gear lever to the left)

The Gearbox holds the revs as it would do in any traditional BMW gearbox, normal gear changes.

D + Sport Button

Steering increases in resistance, throttle is sharper, revs are held. Gearbox changes when it wants to.

Sport Button + hitting the paddles

Hit either paddle shift when in sport mode and it stays in full manual mode (it won't let you bounce off the rev limiter though!). Again the throttle is sharper, the steering is heavier and the gear changes are instant. The engine revs when using this mode change as quick as SMG and significantly faster than any other auto gearbox I've driven.

The SAT is not available as a retro fit and there is definitely a software change + gearbox change from the normal boxes. I'm sure you could fit paddles but you wouldn't achieve the same results.

The driving experience is improved with this option and I'm surprised it is as cheap as it is!

Hope that helps.
