I'm looking to buy new discs for a '95 Chimaera 500. The book I got from tvrcc says all post '96 4.0 Chimaeras + Griffith 500s use the same discs as the Chim 500 but does anyone have a good source other than stumping up main dealer prices?! (A set of sockets will save dealer labour charges)
My first contribution so apologies if topic covered before but I've trawled old stuff and the internet to no avail so far!

They're all standard Ford parts so any motor factor will do. Just make sure you get good quality discs not 'pattern' rubbish ones which will distort when they get hot, and choose your pads carefully. Most normal places will only do standard compound pads which won't do at all in a TVR, I favour Green stuff or Tarox XF.

following a catering session at Croft last year, I needed to fit new brake discs.

I went for grooved and drilled discs from EBC, which have proved good in conjunction with Pagid fast road pads. My experience with the greenstuff pads was bad (and therefore shortlived).

they are standard parts, but watch that you get the right sizes; the patterns changed in 96ish when the cars got larger discs (at least on the 4l).

I souced mine from Noel flannery 0131 665 1799. He's a mobile independent TVR servicer based in the frozen wastes.

good luck

Yum,

I'm interested in your bad green EBC pad experience, what problems did you find?? I bought my Chim in July and it already had said pads fitted. This being my first I know no different. The braking feels good for road use, yet to go on a track day.

I agree with Pete about the EBCs. Switched to them om the 520 mid season and had no end of problems including a spate of cracking discs. Great when really hot but pretty iffy in between. They will get dumped when the bigger brakes go on it this winter. The best pad I have used is the Tarox XF but they don't last long. Got through 8 sets last year...

Actually it was Steve Lewis who is one of the biggest moaner about Brake perfromance I know. Anyway my 520 is now keeping your V8S company. The engine's out and all ready for John to upgrade it over Christmas.

The other problem I have found with EBCs is that they do like eating brake discs as well judging by the amount of wear I've seen. The pads seem to last ages though!
