How do these people get away with it?
Discussion
Let me set the scene, I've spent the day laying under cars in the cold, I'm tired, p*ssed off and not in the mood.
Have to take a trailer to my lock up 30 miles away with a bodyshell on.
Time is about 5.00 it's dark, but the roads are clear, weathers good, no rain on the roads, not even that cold.
On the way there I get held up once or twice, but hey who cares I'm limited to 50 anyway with trailer on.
On way back I must have got stuck behind about 10 idiots doing between 30-40 on open country nsl roads. Yes you may have sod all to do in your life but frankly I want to get back home and in to the warmth and relax.
I think the prize however goes to the muppet in the 307 who very kindly kept slowing down to 15-25 for anything resembling a corner, braking for oncoming cars, road signs, in fact anything other than a perfect straight road, just overtake you might think? Slight problem as soon as he hits a straight road he puts his foot down and I am in a passat diesel! A very slow passat diesel!
So yes after 2 miles of this and my p1ss slowly reaching critical mass I end up leaning on the horn as the pillock has finally got my goat up. His answer...... Slam his brakes on hard and let me past.......on a blind corner. Thanks ever so much for then setting off again and nearly causing a bad accident. Idiot.
There seems to be a concerning amount of people these days that travel at least 10mph under the limit (but then speed past schools????) and if you have the audacity to overtake you get a variety of hand signals, flashing lights, or in the dark the main beam headlights trick! Why?
Incidentally while I get a move on I'm not a tailgater/road rager/idiot behind the wheel.

And they say that its speed that causes accidents !!
There seem to be an awful lot of people on the roads who should not be there for whatever reason, age , eyesight, timidity etc etc
Add a bit of dark, damp etc and the slowies get slower.
I do not drive fast, especailly in these conditions in the TVR , but keeping at pace with the flow of traffic is essential.
It is annoying, and dangerous for people to drive to slow - but I am not sure what can be done ? especially for people who are inhernatly cautious, timid etc
I suppose it opens up a whole can of worms !!
Nick
Just had three similar on the way home
Some person driving something like a Pug 307 or something similar, driving at 20 through a 30 and braking HEAVILY for speed cameras
only to come to a complete stop 3 times in the middle of the road because they're too busy farting around with the satnav to realise that they're on a road with real traffic, then to slam on anchors and turn left with the same strategy as a 40ft artic...oh and without indicators too
Then
Bloke in a transit, in a 50mph limit, doing 30mph...fair enough he might have a heavy load on, but hes driving down a hill
I gentley wafted past him
Only to be confronted by sales rep in a new Laguna doing 25 in a 50....went passed him too and he didnt like it! Do I care????
not a jot

Caught one the other night, 306 this one. Doing 20 in a 30 zone and then braking to 10 for the speed humps that you straddle, you know the ones I mean?
Tried to pass a couple of times but SHE (sorry girls, it always is) was sort of unaware of my presence and I felt in mortal peril. Nearly hit her as she stopped to inspect a proper speed hump before attempting it (no problem there as I do the same in the Ferrari)
When I eventually got fed up and feared for my radiator grill in the minibus, I continued at 20 and accelerated past as she stopped for a straddle hump and was greeted by a bemused look, horn and the full beam as I drove off.
Ban em!

It's down to a complete and utter lack of any mechanical empathy for the machine that they they are operating, absolutley no understanding of how it works, coupled with a zero skill level, they haven't improved one bit since they passed their test decades ago and they still drive just the same as when they were on lessons. They have no confidence, and in fact are driving in a state of high stress bordering on being positively terrified. And on top of all of this, they can't actually see a bloody thing, this is the main reason they do 30 in a 50, and slow to a crawl for the slightest thing, and hit the brakes for anything that comes from the opposite direction. They genuinely can't see jack, they are as blind as a bat. And all the road safety legislation appears to be concerned more and more with making allowance for them and appeasement to their MO, not ours.
As I said in an earlier post, they are in the ascendancy, and the bar gets ever lower.

Bit of a scatter gun comment there chap!! By the sound of that rant I'm guessing anyone over 50 should be banned from the road!! Just in case you need to know I am over 50, drive a Noble (whilst wearing glasses As I said in an earlier post, they are in the ascendancy, and the bar gets ever lower.

I do however agree with the general sentiment that there are some total tools on the road but they are not all old, or all male, or all female, or all young. They are just tools !
I dont think Wozza was having a general pop at older drivers PB, just those idiots that passed their test and continue to drive without any improvement on their skills or ability to control the car, judge distances/situations/road conditions and have little to no confidence or understanding of their vehicle/surroundings!
Sadly, it would seem that there are A LOT of drivers like this these days and tend to think that they're a superior driver because caution = cudos
I saw one earlier on: Youngish chap, about my age (mid 20s) driving through a 30 at 27...nothing wrong with that, but when he proceeded to climb all over his brakes as if he was nearing the edge of the White Cliffs themself, all because he was approaching a speed camera THAT MONITORS THE OPPOSITE LANE AND HE WAS ALREADY UNDER THE SPEED LIMIT
Ohh then the local taxi driver who was driving at 20 in a 30 and decided at the last minute, in traffic, to make a sudden right hand turn off then wondered why he was getting abused
In his defense though, I think he only has an elephant license

Nope this was all on the pocklington to driffield road, a gorgeous bit of road provided you have compliant suspension can see well in to 3 figures, and driffield to skipsea, again a really nice road but much smoother and easier to drive.
I must say it isn't age related at all, there are a lot of oap's in micras that cause chaos, but the majority are 30's-40's driving normal cars (Peugeot's, fords etc) personally I think they do it on purpose, I think the government propoganda has been so successful that normal people who want to get a move on are now seen in the same class as drunk drivers.
They seem to think they are unpaid government officers patrolling the roads punishing those that (in their opinion which is the scary bit) break the rules. the way some of them drive I'm amazed that someone hasn't been hurt to be honest. The worst seem to be the don't use your phone while driving brigade.

Sorry for my misunderstanding of the above quotes must be the fact I passed my test decades ago and can't see jack
By the way who the hell is jack anyway

On the topic of bad driving they are adding hatching down most of street lane.
Now this is bad enough on other roads, however, this is a very busy road, many sections of which have constant traffic parked down a large part of the road especially near shops. Add to this a very long section of the road in the middle being used up when the Synagogue is used especially when the main jewish events of the year are, and you can tell that alot of cars spend alot of time parked down them.
Now the limit is 30 and the road is generally wide enough for 2 vehicles on each side with a bit of space so every one just stays on their own side of the road and in their own lane.
Unfortunately some muppet decided that it would be a good idea to have hatching down the middle of the road. So now every time you drive down you will have to drive with half your car on the hatching numerous times. Then theres the people that dont have a clue how to use hatching (eg. stop in the middle of the normal lane rather than the hatching and pull accross when there is a gap the other way, then some half pull into the hatching so block the road off for others anyway, then the ones who stop in the middle of the hatching without indicating when everyone is overtaking in the hatching due to parked cars etc.)
Now rather than each side staying on their own side till the turn which has worked pretty well for the last 100 odd years the hatching will allow cars to pull over an extra half car width leaving only half a car width for people travelling towards them if there is a parked car there, never mind if they do it infront of a bus. it must be down to incompetence to design a road like that in such a way. I wonder if the planners have even been down that road before.

We already do. In fact, they get twice as many - one's called pavements, the other rail-tracks.And don't even get me started on the most glorious bit of countrified NSL tarmac between Manchester airport and Knutsford where I was stuck behind a Laguna-wielding labotopilot pushing his steed to the heady figures of 15mph. MAXIMUM. For 7 bleeding miles of taking up the entire road as he was insistent that his car was as wide as the gap in his driving skills.
Well, it would have been 7 miles if I hadn't been in the truck. Not often you get a chance to overtake somebody by driving through a field...

Burn them.
