Hi from a newbie to the site and to TVR
Discussion
Hi all, i am hopefully, due to become the new owner of a 4.3 chimaera this weekend, if all goes to plan.
I am viewing the car Sunday, and would be grateful for any pointers on what are the trademark problems.
Also, can you get a hard top for the chimaera ?
keep your fingers crossed for me for sunday.

Hi, welcome....
There are lots of posts about this, so don't be shy of the search function.
Basically, it's all about the condition, and the owner. Have they waxoiled it? To they rag it from cold? Have they actually looked after it...
Hard top? No. Just make sure the hood is waterproof, and the targa undamaged - if the hood leaks, it's a £350 bargaining point.

I'm pretty certain there were hardtops made.
about 2-3 years ago a company (I forget the name) used to sell them for a chim/griff. I think they used to advertise in Sprint.
They looked a bit dodge in my opinion - bet they're hard to find now! I dont think they sold very well!!

The existing top IS hard!!! I'm not surprised they didn't sell either. In fact with the hoop fixed and back window attached to the car as it is, the concept of a removable hard top just escapes me....IF you want a hardtop have you considered a Cerbie?
If not, as said above, there are plenty of tips to look out for, the main one is condition though. And of course be clear there are often little niggles with these cars, they are hand made after all.
I would also get the car inspected if you don't know what you are looking for in terms of mechanical workings, as some things going wrong can cost you plenty.

Cerbie as a first time TVR? a brave concept!! If not, as said above, there are plenty of tips to look out for, the main one is condition though. And of course be clear there are often little niggles with these cars, they are hand made after all.
