Inspired by last weeks Changing Rooms thread I thought I would dig out some of mine.

We live in an end of terrace 130 year old house and when we moved in the lounge and dining room were very pokey. We knocked them through and hopefully have made best use of the space.

We got rid of the door to the lounge as it was surplus to requirements:

We wanted to build the TV into the chimney breast so had to make it a bit deeper:

The hole:

We also hollowed out the chimney breast in the dining room.

And here's how it looks today:

Got this absolutley huge print made up:

As we have no fireplace this work's just as well biggrin

Looking the other way:

Got the superb canvas done by Tim at Fluid Images, great quality:

Also the last couple of weeks I've been decorating the bedroom, no before shots on these. I built a huge wooden headboard in front of the chimney breast and build shelves in the alcoves. The headboard houses lights in the front and a red light behind. This is the first time I've used wallpaper too, paste the wall was a doddle smile

Cheers Andy smile

It's not a canvas, it's a print. I made a wooden frame and stuck it to it with double sided tape to keep it taught. I got it from a place recommended by someone here but the search isn't working and I can't remember where it was redface Only about £80 though.

Think you've done really well to keep the coving, especially around the new 'fireplace' - as a property developer I appreciate how difficult it can be to keep original features.

Bet your electrician loved you too biggrin

Andy, we had a coving guy come in who took a pattern from the existing coving and made up enough to go round the new chimney breast smile

missdiane, I think it was B&Q, it did have little shades but we ditched those smile

You are a man of great style and integrity, Sir. bow

I love the way the style of your photography has the integrity to match your interior design.

Keep up the good work!

cool thread....nice work nick.

like what you did combining the space and the decor looks funky....did you get a builder in to make that opening?

just moved into my first house myself, mid terrace with a two story extension on the back...kind of like a three up three down now but there's no light in the middle room.i'm knocking the old extenal(rear) wall on both levels to make a large kitchen/dinner downstairs and doubleing the size of the bathroom and spare bed upstairs....and i'm building a garrage out the back too of course!

pics are on my mac at work, 'l get them posted monday.

Oooh sorry didn't see that. They're made from battons (I think 1" x 1.5" ) fixed to the wall on the back and sides then the front fixed to the sides. With an 18mm thick MDF top. then just emulsioned like the wall smile

Thanks for the nice comments everyone cool

Dredged up from beyond the dawn of time (or about 5 months ago)... Nothing happens quickly in the Dobbo household ( well, almost nothing wink )

Inspired by this thread and particularly the huge print in Nick's room I decided I'd get one done myself - although it's nothing like as big, I wanted it on Canvas and the price for a print any bigger than I eventually chose was quite prohibitive. I selected my favourite photo that I've ever taken, which I've posted a few times here.

The room as it was:

Once the print arrived, I realised the existing decor wouldn't work - so I set the good lady wife to work choosing colours for the room that better suited the print. To be honest I actually liked the room as it was, but I had a few issues with both the sofa (too big), and the red wall (too dark).

Fast forward a few months and I finally got around to painting it - I bought a Dulux paintpod which didn't work (faulty transmitter) so I had it replaced, and the new one didn't work either (faulty pump). My advice, don't buy a Dulux paintpod. So the old fashioned brush and roller came out, and the room was finished this afternoon.

I say "finished" but the light fitting has to go - it's now the only leftover decoration from the previous owner of the house. By the way - the pink monster slippers aren't mine!

I stretch framed the print myself and it was harder than I anticipated - by which I mean it took a long time to get right. Now I understand why framed canvas prints cost a lot more!

Anyway, just wanted to share, as I'm dead chuffed with how the print and the room have turned out!

smile

The sub was installed before she (then girlfriend, now wife) moved in. I think she's working through a list of man gadgets/decor she hates, no doubt the sub will fall victim soon!
