Just wondered if anyone happens to have viewed this car recently or knows it's history, before I trek up from the South coast ?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1999-T-Reg-TVR-Chimaera-4-0-...

Now back on a original plate T692JCX. Mileage a little on the high side, but I guess not a major issue if the service history checks out. Price ok ?? for a dealer .. albeit with a short warranty.

TIA ...

I thought 4.0HC were only made up to '96 then replaced with the 450.

Tks - I was also wondering the same .. but away on business at present, so couldn't check my TVR files.
Actually, how could one easily tell it's really an HC ?

If it's an HC I think it says in the service book. Also says on top of the plenum - but this is just a plate that can be changed. Pretty sure a 1999 car wont be to be honest.

That car has been advertised for ages, so you should be able to get the price down a bit.

The 'Chimaera' badge on the back is wonky! Looks awful.

And that's a full facelift model is it not? Did the HC come in facelift, or could it be modified?

I thought that as well about the badge!

When looking for mine I found alot of dealers not familiar with TVRs would get things about the spec wrong, but as long as you know what you are buying then it shouldnt be a problem.

That said I would not have driven to Yorkshire for one, must be plently in the SE surely?

A lot of dealers dont seem to have a clue about TVR's.
I've been trying to get an idea of trade in price for mine and have had 3 dealers asking me if it was an import, if it was manual or auto, was it the 2 or 4 door versioin and did mine have the power hood!
Two of these were supposed to be sportscar specialists!

Thanks again ... indeed, plenty of 4.0L around in the South, but I am initially looking for a facelift 450, which are more scarce. That said, the HC would be an option, but as mentioned, I've checked and beileve the 4.0HC was stopped around end 1996/early 1997.

Think you're right ... but I've only a limited budget and little patience ... so maybe this -> http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/242479.htm High mileage, ok? if service intervals ok (my 3000S has 115K and still going strong) ... but such regular use can hammer the outriggers etc ... but it's closer to home for a quick inspection ... hmmmscratchchin

Looks not unlike my car, So I like it! Check the outriggers as with any Chim. I would also be thinking about whether the cam has been done as if 84k on the original it could be near the end of its life.

Hi

There was a classic/sports car hirecompany near me that used to rent out, among other cars, TVR Chimaeras - its now closed down the local office.. A number of their cars bore VRN's of K***CCH. The only Chimaera I saw there was a silver 450, so its not that one.

However, they also had a branch in West Yorkshire, I believe, which may still be open. If it was me thinking about buying it, I would want to clarify if it was a former hire car.

I'm sure they were well looked after, but I know whenever I hired a car from them, it was driven harder than I'd drive mine. It might have some resale implications with that on the V5, too.
