Rock Band - Why the delay?

I quite fancy getting guitar hero III for the 360.
But after reading the 2 reviews I would prefer to get rock band. I read on couple of websites that its not going to get released here until 4 months after the US release!! I mean what the hell is that about??
Is the US version region free? If so I think I'll take the plunge and go for that instead.

No, EA are the publishers and their stuff is generally never region-free, have also checked VG+ and they say it's not region free too.
Reason for the delay that I can see is that different regions are getting different soundtracks, what might appeal in the US won't necessarily appeal in the UK and vice-versa, so they're effectively having to make two different games.
