I recently Bought a BITs fault code reader for my chim. Plugged it in and didn't get any codes so assumed everthing was fine. I left the unit plugged in and went out for a spin and code 26 came up. However this isn't listed as a fault in the BITs instructions or in the bible. Any ideas what this code means?

I and someone else contributing to this forum have also had this problem. Mine was read from a pukka Range Rover code reader. The nearest I've come to an answer was from a response to the above mentioned. From memory he said that after some digging he reckoned it was indicating a faulty Lambda sensor, I can't remember whether he quoted which side.
I notice that the code self clears after removing the ignition and restarting whereas other codes remain until cleared or after several ignition operations.

The important thing that I can tell you is that within about a month I had a proper fault code appear for the nearside Lambda. I replaced it and it seemed to significantly improve the smooth running of the engine.

I would love to know what fault code 26 is so I'll keep watching this thread in case someone comes up with a definative answer.

I borrowed a fault reader and had the same fault come up after adjusting the air flow meter and the throttle potentiometer.
Reset the ecu and no more faults registered.
Weird,
Car runs ok.
If you reset the ecu does the fault number reappear and is your car running ok?

Found this but the codes go from 25-28 and no 26, sorry but hope there may be something helpful on there for you.

A couple of years back I made a similar reply to this in response to the same problem on this thread.

The 14CUX is one of a family of ECUs used on a number of different engines. Some of the Jaguar AJ6 engines use the Lucas 15CU. The 15CU only 'listens' to one lambda sensor - the AJ6 is a straight-six engine with a single exhaust system - but a comparison of the fault codes between the 14CUX and the 15CU shows remarkable similarities which would make me think that both are based on the same control software. And the 15CU DOES have a fault code 26:

Lambda sensor error - fuelling weak.

I don't know it, but maybe in certain circumstances the 14CUX reports the same error?

Just a small heads up,if you reset the Throttle pot & Air mass meter without resetting the ECU the car will run like crap(sometimes)resetting does the biz.
