I'm thinking of trying to drum up some more business via an online shop for patchcords, connectors and cables etc.
Anyone here have any experience of how to go about building this up - is a ready built e-commerce package a good idea and if so any recomendations?
Any alternative suggestions from PH'ers very welcome.

Cheers in advance

Dave

If you are just starting up you could sell your products through an Online Marketplace - take a look at www.buyeng.co.uk. We are looking for Sellers right now with automotive products. Cheapest and simplist way of selling with no techy skills required. If you are interested contact me direct.

We have helped (and are currently helping) PH members with online shops / ecommerce solutions. Average price for say 20 - 30 products is £350 - £500 all in. Have a look at http://www.geminiwebsitedesign.co.uk for more info.

If you look at the links in my profile you can take a look at my online shops. I built them starting with oscommerce which is the biggest (I think) open source shopping cart available. Its fairly easy to customise and there is a large database of other features and functions which can be added. I started with a plain oscommerce install but in hind sight would try a pre modified package called cre loaded.

I would strongly recommend the ePages solution from ITQSolutions

They offer a complete pay monthly on demand solution with a wide range of payment solutions.

I second that. www.creloaded.com is a very good installation of osCommerce, and it's free. You just need a host with MySQL database & PHP scripting. Very easy to configure, hooks up to PayPal/NOCHEX and various other CC merchant accounts with little knowledge needed.

How much would it cost for 3000+ products on the site ?

I would avoid like the plague anyone charging you based on how many products you've got. It shouldn't matter if it's 1 or 10,000.
