I've still got a standard landrover alt on my Tuscan ( serp Rv8), although I have dumped the belt tensioner and the std alt bracket and used the JE alternator bracket and a short v poly belt.
makes a lot more room around the front of the engine... does the motor you've got come with things like the alt and a pas pump etc.. if you dont have any thing I'd be tempted to go the route i did

As your running power to weight, there is going to be no point in releasing power or weight by spending dosh on a posh alternator, unless packaging is an issue

Well I've not got a Alternator or PAS pump, or AC pump with engine, but do have the Tensioner.
Also was thinking a lower power Alternator from another car may be cheeper, and smaller. esp as we are not going to be running loads of lights etc.
Also as my car was not desgined for a RV8 it would be good to save as much space as posible.
I was allways wondering if you could dump the tensioner, esp if you have less kit. so you have answered that question.
Also even though its PTW lighter is still better eps at the front, as the cars are front heavy.
