"Weineck Power" Ford Capri Mk2 doing 7.1 ??
Discussion
When reading "General Gassing", I was remembering something,
maybe one of the old-time-fans/drivers can help me with this:
Years ago,I was announcing a very small Drag Race/Show/RWYB thing
in former eastern germany, at the airbase of werneuchen
(shit track, there never was a second attempt).
A guy turned up and unloaded a capri MK2 from the trailer,
that was in blue metalflake with a big WEINECK POWER lettering.
They tinkered around with ignition and carb setup,
but never got the monster to rev properly,
and I never saw it again afterwards.
PH article from 2006 about Weineck Cobra said :
"Klaus Weineck is a master mechanic by trade and, in 1978,
he started hill climbing on weekends and he ended up building his own cars.
At the hiatus of his racing career,
he slipped into drag racing and built a 2,000bhp Ford Capri-based dragster
with an 8.7 litre supercharged big block Chevy motor
that was clocked at 7.1 sec for the standing quarter mile."
This must have been about 1992, the capri had full lights, wipers,
and even a dealers license plate on it,
with a 14-71 blower growing out of the hood,
topped by a pair of 1050 (?) holley carbs, it was HOT WHEELS in 1:1 scale.
I tried google for pics, unsuccessfully, and mine are not sorted,
you must see this to believe it.
The driver told me he bought this 3rd or 4th hand,
and he believed it even was raced at Santa Pod (?).
Maybe someone from the drag race section knows more about it?
This seems like a Street Eliminator Car 20 years before its time.
Cheers,
Benni

To be running those sort of times, it's not going to be using pump fuel or street legal tyres, and I'd say it probably had open headers, too. It certainly sounds interesting (hey, I currently own 7 Capris, of *course* it sounds interesting to me!). But it sounds more like a Pro Mod with lights and wipers than a Street Eliminator car.Tet said:

Tut, Tut, Tet! Seven Capris and you haven't been near a drag strip with any of them!! I trust you plan to remedy this shortcoming in the new year? Or are you establishing the first commercial Capri breeding colony? Ha!
Good luck in any event, as always.

Well that's not strictly true. Several of them have been near a drag strip, but so far, none of them have been down one. I was hoping to get at least two of them out to a RWYB before the end of this season, but as always, a lack of time and money meant that neither of them were in a fit state to race. FYI, one's a 2.8i and the other's now sporting a Chevy small block. Still, assuming I get everything done over the winter that I hope to get done[1], I should be able to get them out early next year.[1] Yeah, right! But at least I've nearly finished work on one of the others, which I need to get done before I can think about the two I mentioned...

Aaaaaaaaaaaagggghhhhhhhhh!!! A small block Chevy in a Ford Capri!!! Uggh!
Look - I'll be there in 2 hours - call Robin and we'll 'oik the Chevy out and lob it over the nearest hedge....
Okay, scratch that latter idea - maybe you might want to sell it to an eager customer...
I have a blueprinted and balanced FORD 351 Cleveland WITH 4 bolt mains, brimming with goodies (built at Anglo American Racing by Wayne Rydall) that's been sitting on my Mother's garage floor just waiting for such a special occasion. It'll fit in there a treat (they made 'em like that in South Africa) and it'll be fun to drive and race. I've got too much money in it to sell, but you're welcome to it so long as an eager and cheery photographer of your ken (currently with a gammy eye and whose finely tuned and athletic frame could do with taking up salads in the new year) gets to have a go every now and again.... Ha!
Mind you, Mr. Marston does like to fit Big Block Chevy's into Dodge's, doesn't he...... Mmmmm... I say he's just waiting for Santa to bring him his dream 32 valve 426 Hemi down his Chim-Chimney!

OK, maybe my SE remark was a litle over-enthusiastic,
it sure was more like a PM with lights and wipers.
But in the late 70s/early 80s, a blown doorslammer was not very common ?
Anyway, it seems that no-one here (so far) remembers it,
it sure was unique, the scoop WAS taller than the roof-line,
and that blue metalflake with orange/red lettering was..........pure 70s.
I guess I have to call Weineck and ask if they have a pic that they can send me,
my photos of that time are in my "shoebox" archive somewhere.
Regards,
Benni
