When I was at the Stoneleight kit car show earlier this year, I saw an ariel-atom look-a-like on show, the front end tube structure and styling looked almost identical, but I seem to remember it had a central seating position like the McLaren F1, and it had a bike engine which was running longitudinally through a differential......does anyone have any web links for it, or know the name?.....

SDR V-Storm I suspect. Interesting car - in some respects it's a bit of a shame they've gone for such similar styling to the Atom as it is a great design in its own right.

Could also be the MEV rocket - that's a bit chunkier though.

thanks chris, just found the site, sure enough its the one I saw at stoneleigh

http://www.sdrsportscars.co.uk/

it looks like a very well engineered kit, good value too, when you consider Atoms ar 40K, and this is 14K......4K for a starter kit dosent sound silly either.

not too sure about the V-twin engine, but 140bhp and 100Nm aint bad, certainly will sound nice..... would be interesting to see an R1 or Hayabusa set-up......radiator position looks very dodgy.....not much air flow behind the rear bulkhead.

Like you say, I think comparision to the Atom is a little unfair - firstly because of the difference in price, but also the fact the SDR has a number of interesting design features on its own. The V-twin powerplant is rather different, as is the 3 seat layout and the modular build platform. The latter means that the entire rear end can be removed to swap it for a different powertrain and they are also planning to offer interchangable body styles.

Nonetheless, it would be interesting to see how it compares to something like the V-tec powered Atom. They are quite a lot more money, but so far they're the only car I've been in that has managed to redefine my concept of speed... seriously impressive devices!

Id be interested to know what it weighs, it may be an illusion but looking at the chassis it looks quite heavy to me.

There was a thread on this earlier - http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

My personal favourite of them is the SDR V-Storm.

I think they were talking about 500kg.

Theoretically, big thin tubes should be lighter for a given stiffness than small thick ones - especially if the other chassis using rectangular rather than circular section tubes.
