Spent all last Friday rocking like I have never rocked before 
Great fun. Seems a little less forgiving than previous versions but they may have just been the new wireless controller.
Loved the 2 player co-op mode - alternate song list as well
The end battle against the devil was a nice touch (only played it on medium though - I'm not good enough on hard yet - my stubby fingers don't move quick enough) .

Also Planet Earth DVD boxset is going for £14.99 for today only HMV too, might be online only, but i'm going to try the shop and try my luck when I pick up GHIII.
Played it for a good few hours last night. and

I struggled on easy for a few hours, but then I started to get the hang of it (a little)
I have comnpleted about 5 songs on medium and I think thats my whack! Anything I dont really know I'll have to listen to to get the notes.
So far I'm finding it VERY difficult. but thats good. considering ive never picked up a guitar in my life! I like a challenge!

Really is a case of the old mantra 'practice makes perfect' Ok, so maybe not perfect as I can't ever see me being good at Expert, but there was a time when I looked at hard mode and could never see myself doing it.
You'll find that you build up muscle memory and without even consciously thinking about it your fingers will be moving to hit every note, this is especially the case when you move up to hard, you'll see the colours coming and your fingers end up doing all the work without you needing to think about placement.
Edit: And if you find it gets frustrating and you're not getting anywhere, leave it for a day or two, then start again, you'll be better than when you left it, couldn't explain how it works myself, but your brain obviously absorbs the patterns and you'll be much better than if you attempted to keep struggling through.
