The other two cars at Hilton Coachworks / Paint info please

Hi All,

Hilton are telling me that the paint they've ordered was water based and does not match the colour..so they're having to order in solvent based paint from the USA.

Are they just behind schedule and giving me a line or is this likely?

Hi Nicky,

From experience in dealing with bodyshops over the past 10 years and having a friend who owns one, any colour regardless or water based or solvent if you have the paint code can be made up from any paint supplier or by the guys in the paint shop themselves, I know this with the colour of my car with it being a one off Kandy blue they made the paint up themselves kept the mixture details and made some extra just incase, so my guessing is it's a line!

didn't think you were allowed to use solvent based paints in the UK anymore. Hence why our cars stone chip so easily.

It really depends on the level of solvent Greg and the bodyshop and spray booth equipment they have and disposal procedures, but you are correct they are now steering away from heavily solvent based 2 pak paints now.

Hilton were a little slow when mine was in there a few weeks back, but I can't fault the finish.

The solvent and sunglasses were for the paint spayer

Had a similar problem recently, when having stone chips and door handles done.Might be worth speaking to Steve Kerridge as I believe they got it from ICI eventually.

Given the weather it's probably best that I'm in a "wet weather car" and I do what a good job done...frustrating though!
