Radiator Leak - Help

Hi

Just got back to work from lunch and got out of the car heard a hissing saw steam etc and a lot of water coming out of the bottom of the car. Cant see where the waters coming from (didnt want to stick my head in the steam!)looked like either the bottom of the rad or the expansion tank itself. Are there any common things i should look for like a hose coming loose cracked rad etc?

The cars a E39 540i by the way

Expansion tank and rad are both problem areas on e39's. Mine (2000 540 Touring)was done at about 72k.

Know the rad was done just before i bought it - further investigation shows the leak coming from under the expansion tank possibly from whatever sender unit is plugged in under there.

Is the expansion tank separate from the rad as they appear to be joined??
