just fixed my e36 climate control unit

just thought i would post to say i replaced the final stage resistor unit on my e36 coupe A/C unit this afternoon, easy enough job, well worth it.and i now have a fully operational fan,

so if anyone is thinking about doing it DO!

and costs about 50pemce to do. A replacement is £200 from BMW, some people are selling ''reconditioned'' units on ebay for £100 and it only cost them 50p to sort!

I think you're talking about the capacitor on the climate control board. New capacitor is about 50p but BMW will just sell you a new climate control module for £230. What lewis328 is talking about is the final stage resistor for the fan which is about £80 I believe. Mine needs a new one but I'm too lazy to drive to the $tealer's to buy it and none of the online spares people seem to have one.

yeah the final stage resistor unit is what i replaced, (spikey hedgehog thing) £80 to buy 30 mins work. so chuffed as i thought fan motor etc had gone.

It's a common fault apparently, to be expected on E36s that are over six years old. Just need to get a new hedgehog so I can do mine before the OH kicks me out for having no heating in my car!

That's a slightly different problem to which you've linked the "cure", not the resistor pack....but good find anyway
