drove this road yesterday at night just as part of my journey from shef to manc
seemed epic, really nice and smooth reasonably wide and beautifully twisty. it was also quiet but it was about 7.30 in the eve
only problem was it was dark and i couldnt really see what was off the side of the road. in the darkness i could have out the hills and possible a big lake but otherwise i was unaware of some possible drops!!

anyone else know about it

Yep - better known as The Woodhead Pass - Great road when its empty but a bit of a pig when its full of lorry's.

Think there has been a big fuss earlier in the rear against plans for a Bypass road which would relieve a lot of the congestion - but no doubt they will then lower it to 40/50 mph and fill it with camera's

It is a very enjoyable road when quiet. Once you know it well, you really can push.

I was up there around Sunday lunchtime, the traffic totally spoilt it...really busy. I did the A6024 north to south as well, some great views from the top and interesting when the road drops down between the hills, the surface is pretty dodgy in places though.
