Hi guys, any help would be appreciated.

I am a fairly young IFA and have been in business a little while now, however it comes a time when the avenues of business i have developed are not providing quite as much as i would like.

Does anyone have any ideas for networking and effective means / locations for doing this? anyone had a similar experiences?

Organise a golf day, invite your customers, for around £50pp you can get 27 holes, bacon buttie on arrival, light lunch and evening meal.

Organise a five a side tournament, invite local companies (this has actually proved quite good) for about £150 you can hire a hall and have some grub laid on for 6 teams.

Rotary gentlemans evenings

Freemasonry

Accountants throw quite a bit of work in the direction of IFAs, I usually spread my work between 2 to 3 local ones, so we attend their golf/karting/meals etc, and they attend ours.

Hope this helps...it's a start

Get friendly with solicitors and accountants, who can introduce business to you on things like IHT, CGT, investments, pensions, etc. Make sure you offer them a better quality relationship than their existing IFAs.

Also, meet business owners, as they will want group schemes setting up. There is an IFA network in Ecademy and I imagine Linkedin will also have relevant groups whi can also help with ideas.

If you want to offer online services as a "discount broker" (e.g. Term quotes, annuity quotes, online ISAs, etc), then feel free to send me a PM.

Cheers guys,

I am trying the solicitors and accountants slog, met a few, but its hard going, paticularly as i am only 24.

Clients no problem, but other "experts" its not been easy. Some fun ideas above though! i havent been karting for ages!

Try BNI Networking
They are all over country and I have been a member of a few, the IFA people always do very well from it, you can go as a visitor a few times before you join, the IFA in my current group gets 3 or 4 decent leads a week from it

My father has been an IFA for approx 10 years since he left Royal & SunAlliance.

He is in the fortunate position that he retained many of his clients from his 15+ years from Royal Life and so has continued working these clients, and running on a referrals basis.

He has, in the past five years or so, established a keen connection with a couple of solicitors in the local area and they have passed a lot of work between them, and this has helped in the past couple of years as investment risks are tentative!
