X5 Questions!

I maybe joining the ranks as an X5 (2005 MY) owner soon, but just wanted to ask a few questions prior to the final buy!

1. Any preference for 3.0 petrol over the 3.0 diesel? Esp in Sport guise?
2. Is the back tailgate strong enough to sit on like the Range Rover tailgate?
3. Any major problems reported?

The diesel has more torque & is a bit more economical on fuel, also is much better for towing. All the sport means is better wheels, body kit & standard interior trim. You can sit on the tail gate like the range rover. Unfortunately I don't get to hear much about problems with them that could be a good thing as I do chat to the service guys a lot & they haven't whinged about them at all. Having said that there will be some with problems as with anything mechanical, subject to error.

These are the main bits the sport gets.

Aim to pay £2K - £2.5K less for a non Comms pack car (sat nav)

and I wouldn't recomend that any heavy adults sit on the boot lid.

Hello mate - I'd say not to get one without the comms pack (Sat Nav et al) and to get the Diesel over the petrol anyday. You'd be at the pumps all the time with the petrol...and the Diesel one is more fun to drive due to the Torque factor (if you want more oomph then DMS it ) - unless off course you go for the 4.8is

I've always heard that avoid the diesel for anything pre-04 - given you are looking at an 05 I would go diesel for definate.

Try and get the highest spec you can - when I was looking at the x5 I wouldn't touch one that didn't have the comms pack / chrome pack etc. so if other think the same you may find a less spec one will depreciate more sharply.

PS Went for an M3 at the end to live out my childhood dream of a performance car!!!!
