Well its only been out once and it doesn't want to go out since!

The prancing donky is on the back of a low loader back to Ferrari this morning.

I thought I'd share it with the fezza boys.

And I thought things were pretty sorted from the 360 onwards ... you live an learn. I'm not sure I'd say a Ferrari was less reliable, as you can't rule out a muppet with the spanners being the root cause, even if there is a dealer stamp in the book. On the up side though at least the dealer has offered a solution, hell would freeze over before you got that kind of response from a TVR dealer! Good luck mate!

Steve.

I have a Griffith a 512 BB and a 308 GTB resina and used to own a 275gtb and i can tell you one thing; i bought a griff as a daily driver because when a ferrari goes wrong this will really cost you. And i mean really costs a lot.

I am into classic cars and not new ones but the TVR till now, and i have been owning the car for 8 years or so or even more the griff did not cost me anything. I did it all myself because there are no good workshops(in the Netherlands) which can fix my griff better then i can do it myself. The engine till now never broke down and i just put in oil from time to time. Rubbers of diff went wrong. Spend a lot of money on shocks and handling issues but for the rest nothing.

Ferrari's are different. Engine rebuild can easily cost you 40 000 euro. And for a boxer perhaps the same amount.

I do not know anything about the speed six engine but i just do not want a car with that engine because TVR cars are badly made and if they are not even capable of screwing a car together properly i will surely forget about a car with TVR's own engine because i think they can get away with a bad build quality of the car but not with an engine.

By the way TVR's remind me of old ferrari's. They were also, let's say, not reliable. And the handling of some older ferrari;s is just scary. Like the standard 275 gtb were dangerous. But ok if you throw enough money against them they will also handle very well.

Newer ferrari's i do not know but i can tell you one thing that if it needs some repair ferrari's are much more expensive.

And new ferrari's are no racecars. I do not want all that electronical things. TVR's are more like ferrari's were used to be.

By the way a 308 does not have to come out for belt change. But still it is more then a day work.

I think TVR's are kinda kitcar. And i can understand that some people think they are shitty cars but they remind me of older ferrari's and it is just TVR love them or hate them but i must agree the build quality make me laugh.

I love my griff!!!

Freddy

He doesn't like TVR's own engines! He should experience an AJP8 and discover what he's missing.

I know, I agree, everyone should experience the AJP8 - a stunning engine in an unbelieveable car.

Was thinking about it. But i live in the Netherlands and i use my bike more then my car so i do not care so much anymore. And i expect some problems with parts in the future. Perhaps i am wrong.

Happy with the griff at the moment no need for other car. By the way i live in Siberia (russia) about half of the year, And over here (Novosibirsk) i use the bus and local transport like little van (marschrutka's). No need for a car stange enough.

But perhaps one day i will buy one because i think they look so great!!! Really i fell in love with them. Will see.

I am writing a bit about classic prices in the ferrari place and i must say i do not see cerbera's falling even further in price. I do not think you can really loose money owning them at these prices. Perhaps i should buy one and put them in the garage next to the other cars and motorcycles. And when i come home from russia just look at them and drive some.

Strange enough i never lost money on classic cars or special cars. I bought my Griff round 1999 for 16000 pound or less i do not know anymore but round that price. Now more then 8 years later i think i will still get round that price here in the netherlands. Had tp pay a little taxes for the car because we have some special taxes over here. but really i years of fun for so little money and minor problems. And more important lots of fun bettering the car. I think that is also the fun with a TVR simple car to work on cheap parts and your work really pays off. And easy to rebuild the car better.

Still think it is kinda stupid to compare a ferrari with a TVR. Not that one is better or worse but other thing. New ferrari's i do not like because they are too civilised.

Offcourse ferrari is the "better" car in terms of build quality but who cares? Still my heather does not work properly and it leaks a bit and sometimes things fall off but really i do not care just glue it back on. By the way with old ferrari's you got the same thing!!! And i do not care either. When people ask me about my TVR and ask if it is a good car i will answer NO and then they ask why i drive it. My answer is here are the keus and take the car for a ride and then we will talk again!!!

Must try that cerbera now!!! Let's think when will i be back in Amsterdam???

Look other thing with TVR. Nowaday when i read the forum i noticed that everybody is kinda scared about the chassis and they all want to takes the body off. For reparing the chassis. You can do this thing and almost everybody will manage to do this in their garages and with some help you can restore your chassis. No that it is really neccesary but it is fun and relatively cheap to fix all in winter time.

No try to get the body off your Ferrari and fix things cheap.

I think this is a major part of TVR ownership and that russian owner did not get that right.

So let's all get that body off and fix the chassis for the sake of fun!!! And discuss what to put on your sandblasted chassis!!!

Fred - have a good look at this: http://www.pistonheads.com/members/showcar.asp?car... - its Longbows car - absolutely stunning work, im guessing this is what you have in mind...

As for parts - I dont think theres ever been a better time for most parts, thanks to the efforts of the TVR independants out there. smile
