I'm considering purchasing a runaround mr2 turbo but the reason its going so cheap is that there is no boost from the turbo! Is this something that can be rectified by myself and if so, how would i go about it?

How cheap is 'very cheap'? It's only £2k to get a decent one.

There's loads that coud be causing the car to produce no boost and only half of it is fixable without spending hundreds. Really if you can't afford a good one you probably shouldn't consider a bad one.

If you're dead set on it look for;

Vacuum leaks on the actuator
Aftermarket boost controllers that have been set up badly,
Large intercooler/air system leaks
Timing set to 0 degrees

If you take a paperclip with you to view the car it might be able to tell you what's wrong.

It's also not that uncommon for the ceramic turbo internals to break resulting in the turbine wheel sitting in the downpipe..

yesfrown

I replaced the turbo on mine, which wasnt THAT expensive, but I put a low mileage second hand one on.

But as Pete says, if the turbo has gone in a big way, who knows whats got into the engine.

Personally, if it were me, I'd find a good one.

(Actually if it were me, I'd probably buy it spend loads of £££ on it, flog it for a massive loss, and regret it the rest of my days)

yes

Unless the main boost hose has come off, a leak in the actuator pipe work will usually result in an overboost situation ending in turbo failure after the ECU bounces off the boost cut a few times. (if its not been bypassed)

The wastegate could have fell apart? Either way a new turbo would be needed.

Would be worth a punt at 1k I s'pose.
