Hi all

I have bought a demo VXR8 and hope to have it in the next few weeks. The dealer has just told me these cars do not come with a factory alarm, just an immobliser. Most of the R8's I see advertised say they have alarms. He wants to sell me an after market job. Does any one out there know if this is true? Seems crazy that a car like this has no security system! If they really dont have one, can a factory Holden/HSV kit not be used with the original wireing harness rather than adding more wires? Alarm or not, I can't wait to get my hands on it.

It has an "alarm" in that it'll trigger the horn.
To test, lock the car normally then use the key to unlock and it should trip the alarm.

There isn't any ultrasonic alarm to detect broken windows as far as I know

HSV's have a pretty advanced immobilizer as well as microdots under the paint IIRC.

The ultrasonic alarm is a Holden dealer installed accessory. I know because I have one! It also has tilt sensors and something else that I have forgotten. It has 2 spare cables for adding 2 more sensors of your choice to the alarm.

Maybe one of the dealers could answer if it is available for the VXR8.

Edit-
From the Holden website:
"Alarm upgrade package - $ 462.00*

Upgrade to Stage 2 security with ultrasonic movement sensors, tilt sensors and battery backup siren."

So I take it the VXR8 is not Thatcham approved like the Monaro wasn't?

Has anyone upgraded their VXR8 alarm to Cat1?
