Right, I've shamelessly hijacked a couple of threads on this over the last week or two, and everyone shamelessly ignored me! hehe

My T350 goes to Leven for a service in a couple of weeks, and I would like to make it a bit louder at the same time! I leave the house early in the mornings, so do not want the loudest exhaust on the market, but would be interested in whatever might be the next level up from the weedy standard exhaust I currently have!

I have heard mention of replacing the cats with straight through pipes, and then a re-chip to help correct the emissions for the MOT. I'm wary of this because I don't want to fear the MOT every time, and don't particularly need the extra power of the chip as I'm a bit of a granny driver anyway!

Can anyone offer advice please? All help much appreciated!

Cheers, Toby

Always tricky talking about how loud exhausts are on a web site, but as I see it you have a few options. The JP, TVR Power pipes are probably on the loud end of the market, add a de-cat to that and you are talking seriously loud. My ears are still ringing from a couple of the cars on the tunnel run last Sunday.

Its all down to personal choice, but I didnt want something as loud as that, but I wanted something louder than the standard pipes though. Heard comments bout Blue Flame exhausts, which seemed to be somewhere in between, with the added advantage of being able to put what they call Db Killers in the end of them, to reduce the noise when required (early starts, long motorway runs etc). Had a kind offer of a listen of a car who had them fitted, which helped make my mind up. I put them on 4 weeks ago, and love them. And they look the nuts too IMO.

I am sure there are others too, so no doubt advice will be forthcoming from others.

You say you are taking it to Leven, so must be localish to me (near Southend), happy to arrange a meet if you want a listen. I have a Tam, but believe the pipes are the same.

Edited to add that I must have been typing while getis was saying the same thing!! two minds....

Yes, I had a JP on my T350. It was very very loud. Sounded amazing but many people complained how loud it was. Hope you find what you are looking for.

I can whole heartedly recommend the JP exhaust. A deeper note than standard and only a little bit louder at idle and low revs.

For pops and bangs - hold it above 3000rpm for a few seconds, then come off the throttle and it sounds like a drive by shooting!
Keep below 3000rpm for fewer pops or bangs.

Noise at normal motorway speeds is pefrectly bearable.

Above 4000rpm its proper loud and a little bit scary evil Lovely.

shout JP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Loud and pops and bangs, still more quiet then the Power ones and if you do not decat you'll get a MOT at a halfway positive test center without probs-

if you feel they are too loud better stick with standard ones as all open exhausts will become loud if you rev the car (as will standard ones...)- go for it you know you want it...

Thanks for all your responses so far, and offers of a listen (I'll get back to you soon!). Apart from the straight through pipes/decat option, I've now heard of four sports exhausts: Blue Flame, ACT, JP, Power. Is that an approximate order of increasing loudness?

Still undecided!

My de-catted T350 had the JP system on when it ran in the Fighting Torque event earlier this year. Do a search on PH TV and have a listen - it was proper loud when pressing on, but fairly refined at lower revs.

Had the Racing Green one on my Tamora, (same as TVR Power). I found they were loud when cold, but too loud when hot and at high revs, so I sold them.
The standard ones sound great and have got louder over time, but I really miss the overrun pops and bangs, so I'm probably going to go for the Blue Flame one next year some time.
