Ok

I have a budget of around £12-13k.

I want something sporty and fast that is reliable - preferably back seats....

Wish for a TVR but not willing to risk it...

I need to live with it and preferably use it every day...

Elise? RX7? WRX? Anyone??

You know you want a TVR really!!

If your budget is 13k and you need 4 seats, why not go for a TVR SV8, for around 10k (give or take a bit) and spend the rest on a 4 seater new"ish" eurobox.

Best of both worlds.

Just a suggestion as requested.

Lotus M100 Elan, I bought mine and have never regretted it. Very reliable (ie never broken down) Used in all weathers incl. snow Still looks good, attracts attention and has excellent road handling and A to B performance. No back seats though.

350i and a Hot hatch - thats what I did 9 years ago - Insurance added up to the same and I've never looked back. now have a TVR 420SEAC and a 2 Year old Astra SRI. If you only want one a Chimaera 4.0l is the ONLY answer!

Try a sporty hatch. Then consider a TVR when your serious.

Nice one!!

Once you get a TVR (any one, doesnt matter!) you'll never get the same grin factor per £ with any other car.

Happy hunting!

Dave.

You can buy my Lotus Carlton if you want. It should be reliable as some poor mug (me!) has spent a fortune ironing out the unreliable aspects!

Jamie,

Great minds think alike - I have a TVR Chimaera and a Citroen ZX Turbo Diesel!!! The Citroen gets 40-50MPG on a run and has so far cost be around £300 for 10,000 miles! The TVR gets between 22 and 25 MPG and has cost £200 in 2000 miles.... Mmm, which will cost the most?

In my job I needed something to be reliable and cheap to run - why did I get a Citroen again? I could end up in Manchester for a couple of days and the TVR wouldnt be the best choice for the trip and ability to leave anywhere. Plus it is not critical on servicing and maintenance - have a second car to cover any situations.

Oh, only problem is insurance and car tax - if you think that it is expensive for one, they try two!!! It really hurts....The sooner we can get insurance to cover the driver and not the car the better - as for car tax, I can drive both at the same time, so why should I pay twice....

Cheers,

Paul

VERY tongue in cheek!
How about Car Crazy Katie, good chassis, few miles front fenders rather protrusive, rear-end good curves, but no (car) sense.................

lol JMGS4. Corrado VR6, then a Tiv when you can afford/house/want two cars ? Mate drives one of these, no worries about reliability, 4 seats(ish) and the last "Storm" VR6 are still in the dealer network.
Don't get a 12k 968, answers your criteria but it'll be a shed at that money.
I know I'm going to get shouted down. But he did say reliable&4 seats, which rules out my fav. cars and yours...

the othere may mock me, but theres a lot of choice for 13k, I kinda think the fiat coupe is great fun, 2,0 turbo and four seats.

Im in the same boat myslef with 13k, and have been tempted by a selection of lancia inegrale HF Turbo Evo's
the one owned by a saudi prince here, has my attention at the mo.!

OK so a Tiv for the weekend (I have an S) and sensible box for work/ weekdays.....or

If you just want a tin top, how about a Honda Integra Type-R....good ones 2-3 years onld are at about £12K with FHSH and rock solid reliability. 0-60 in 6.8 from a normally aspirated 1.8 ! with 32mpg.

Or for a bit more comfort (ive just ordered one) an Accord Type-R 2.2, same performance but 5 series dimensions & handles superbly for FWD. £13K will buy a 2 year old with 30-40K miles if you look around.

I would also look at the Fiat Coupe Turbo or perhaps a scooby if you fancy it.

good luck & let us know what you get
