Hey guys..im looking for a new car. I currently have a 440bhp evo 8. Been looking for something a bit different and a little special. Considered noble ect.

Now i must admit, as shameful as it is, iv never consider'd an ultima. Iv come accross one for sale and its surprised me at how cheap they are..from 25-40k second hand and its quite appealing.

Id be using it alot...most days for driving about and on weekends, occasional track days. Reliability is something im worried about, if it breaks alot then il end up loosing my rag and sellin it.

Could you give me your opinions on this car http://search.autotrader.co.uk/es-uk/www/cars/ULTI...

Do you think it would be reliable to run? This is in the UK. All comments welcome.

Kind Regards

Jay

Thats a decent car that they had up for 30K 2 months ago.
It has the right brakes on it (AP), and I believe the build was done by a PH member to a high standard.
For that kind of money its a no brainer --you wont find another at that price -or anywhere near it for a GTR.
As for reliability, its a chevy small block , so its simple as they come.
Daily driver biglaugh- nope thats one thing its not.

Not with only 3,000 miles on the clock.....in 4 years!

I would have expected to see at least 9k in that time.

I have a 440bhp evo...im bored. I am pretty much set on a lotus exige S now as a daily driver...but come accross an ultima and despite very little knowledge, im still intrigued. They are gorgeous. Not much use to me if its only suitable for very little milleage...I could do 3000 in a month. frown

3000 miles in a month in an Ultima .....

that will be £1125 in juice, you will also be late everywhere you go as every time you stop you will have people talking to you about the car. Buy an old diesel for your big miles and use the ult to enjoy yourself the rest of the time??

IMO

3000 miles a month yikes you would need shares in BP or SHELL to run an Ultima smile oops maybe you have.
The OP's already running a 440bhp Evo ... not exactly renowned for economy! My 340bhp Evo was only marginally better on fuel than my 490bhp Ultima was.

Probably more to do with the weight of your shoes than the size of your engine.

Definatly not a daily driver, black isn't the best colour, and WHY is it cheap, must have some poor history. ( tracked ) not Ultima wheels, no rear spoiler, think I will go and buy a 400bhp + evo, sounds much better.
Also, wheels are aftermarket (not factory split rims), no rear spoiler and I'd be surprised to see aircon.

That said, it's still a fair price. Need more details really.

Nope, the point I was making is that tuned Evos are very thirsty beasts. Maybe 20mpg on a run but mine did about 7mpg on track.

That they are lol. Mines terrible. I can appreciate people saying get a deisel for big miles but i hate driving around a shitbox and only keeping a fun car for weekend use. Seems everytime im in a daily driver, all sort of oppertunities present themself..as soon as your in the toy, nothing ever happens.

As i said, im set on buying a lotus exige S, but hoped the ultima might be ok'sh for more regular use. frown

Cheers for comments guys

Why not buy a new one from the factory with a LS7. It'll be reliable, and good gas mileage.

As I said in a previous post, I'm sure this is the car built by Darren Gosbee. If it is, it is very well built. I recognise the wheels (Darren didn't like the factory wheels), blue seat belts and the "push button door openers" visible in one of the pictures. The only mistake he made was painting the interior of the doors and the roof with a textured paint which he regretted because it marked very easily.

I remeber reading the specs on this car, and its a steal at that price --show me another GTR for that money on an 03 plate if you can.
Dont automatically assume because its cheap that its crap -- that does no Ultima build any favours.

I have spoken to the dealer and it is indeed Mr Gosbees car it would appear. Anyone able to update me on spec build quality etc. I am hoping to make a trip to the factory in the next couple of weeks and also to see the car in person.

Do you know if its got the lowered floor?

I believe Darren is an engineer and the car was built over a number of years and has all the Ultima options apart from the rear wing. He was extremely meticulous in every aspect of the build, that is why it took him so long. It is an early chassis and Darren is not particularly tall, so the car probably does not have the lowered floor. The car definitely impressed me the first time I saw it. He did initially have trouble with the drive shaft boots splitting, but this was rectified. The engine wasn't a standard 350 SBC, but I can't remember the spec.
