PS, Gran T and steering combo
Discussion
Ok, naive post here and I am not a gamer (can't honestly say I have ever played on a console type game) but I really fancied trying my hand at Gran Turismo and the Ring. I understand that you can't just choose which car/circuit your drive but that it might be possible to cheat your way around that?
I can find quite a few PS2 on Ebay with GT in various versions and various steering wheel/pedal sets.
Any advice on which version of GT to go for, given that I am interested in a limted range of cars/circuits ( I don't want it to become a way of life!), and advice given that I want a good quality and realistic pedal set.
Am I better off looking to but a new console, or is second hand safe enough?

You'd be fairly safe getting a secondhand console, for the full experience though you'd want to pay more for the wheel and pedals setup, the Driving Force Pro is a good choice, or if you really want to push the boat out, look at getting the G25 wheel, both of which are made by Logitech.
You'll also want to think about where you're going to mount the wheel and where you'll be sitting, as sitting with it on your lap isn't really an option, it will kick around too much and spoil all the enjoyment.
Your basic ingredients will be:
PS2 console (older version or the new slim one, doesn't matter really)
Racing Wheel and pedals combo
Copy of Gran Turismo 4
Memory Card
And if you have a HDTV you might want to get hold of the PS2 component cables to make it look that bit sharper.
As for racing any car on the track, I'm sure that most people on here would be more than happy to copy their game save to your memory card if you post it to them, this will allow you to race any car on the 'ring at your leisure.
