WHICH TYRES?????
Discussion
Hi Guys. I need two new tyres for my bog standard cv8. It has Bridgestone potenza all around at the moment. I've been offered a few choices at my local tyre shop. Goodyear F1, more Bridgestone, Pirelli or Kumho. The Kumho are pretty well priced under £100 per tyre all in. Will these be good enough for ordinary use or should I go for one of the others priced nearer £150??????????
On tests (autocar and evo) the goodyear F1 came out top with the verstein tyre (can't remember which model though)coming second, its a little known company from holland that do bloody good tyres especailly in the wet and they are cheaper than most others.
I had them on my old ST220 and they where a big inprovement all round

It's probably worth reading this first: www.hsv.org.uk/topic.asp?t=448115&f=69&h=27
I'm going for some Falken 452's next, good grip and not too expensive. Good reviews too: www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Tyre/Falken/FK452.htm

Sorry to hijack your thread but you've reminded me to get mine sorted. Assuming I want to buy Falkens, and I have an 06 CV8 (standard 8" rims), is this what I want:
Falken GRB FK 452 (Extra Load) 255/35 R18 Y
I have 235s at the moment but fancy some extra grip. Description is from Blackcircles.com - I was quoted £237.16 for 2 including fitting.

i have had my Falken 452's on the rear for a few weeks, and all i can say is they are awsome wet/dry and back road driving
and all with 440bhp going through them
and all with 440bhp going through them
cheers guys. Just spoken to my friendly tyre dealer and they don't recommend 255s on 8" rims, you need at least an 8.5", also 35 profile is not extra load where 40 is and it's closer to the original rolling diameter.
Therefore, I have just ordered 2 Falken GRB FK 452 (Extra Load) 245/40 R18 Y for £228.28 inc fitting.
The guy on the phone was also an Aussie and he told me Monaros are built in his home town!

Thanks for all the info guys. I'm still pondering what to do. But what do you think about changing my tyres to 45 profile on the same standard wheels to help with a bit more ride comfort on our appalling roads. Quite often I feel that I'm running over speed bumps, whereas it is in fact a cats eye.
Will 45's fit inside the wheel arch without scuffing?
Or do you guys have any other suggestions on how I can make the ride a little more comfortable and help keep my retina stationary.
