Hi

My chimaera has a problem with the doors, if opened form inside, then its hit and miss if they will close once out, its as if the lock is being help open. if i open the drivers door, then the pass one inside, then they both close fine. so i guess the cables needs adjusting, how do i remove the center console to gain access?

i have a 93 4.3 with the door ball in the same place as gear stick and h/brake

many thanks

Hi,
2 small screws either side at the front of the console.
Trinket tray at the back pull it up with the tab will reveal 2 screws.
Then pull console up it up might be a bit tight if it has'nt been removed for a bit.
Wiggle over the handbrake then you will see the 2 adjuster nylon nuts on the ball.

Yo can also adjust them at the lock. Look behind the carpet that covers the lock

I think thats the later ones... to remove the early console:
Gearknob off
Slacken Right off the handbrake adjuster above the diff (good time to find its prob seized & thats why the handbrake is crap hehe)
Flip out the trim in the 'tray' and unscrew
Remove the handbrake grip (every little helps as you will find out)
Remove the door know, by releasing the lock nut underneath and unscrewing.

Now you have to wrestle the console off by pulling the brake lever up and lifting the console at the back so that you can release the fibreglass prongs that engage under the 2 ridges of the transmission tunnel at the front. It is a bit easier in the future if you trim them back a bit BTW wink Its a fair old puzzle to get it off - at some stage you have to drop the brake and slide it forward (after pulling the electrical connections). The Gaitor is the problem - it would be much easier if it had been made detachable.

Luckily as Pete said you may get away with just freeing it from the door lock side wink
