Seems like just over a year ago or so this one only had about 16K miles on the clock....now they've got it back and it's for sale again with 24K miles! Someone's been enjoying themselves?

When that one was for sale previously the asking price was circa £25K IIRC and an acquaintence told me it sold for somewhere between that and the current asking price.

DerrinI 'm not trying to pick a fight but 8k in a year has got to be quite normal as an everyday means of transport !,as these cars get more affordable a different type of owner becomes the new owner, many seduced by the timeless design of a very undervalued coupe,then they realise these old beasties dont quite go as fast as they look capable of.
Me like you, are more than happy to keep our cars tucked up in a warm garage awaiting the need to take a drive in style every once in a while, whilst others drive them daily & run the miles up.

I was just surprised when I saw this car up for sale again and that the mileage seemed to taken such a leap relative to the number done in it's previous years. There's nothing wrong with what the owner has done. Nothing wrong at all. It's just not what I would have done with such a low mileage example given that there are so few really low mileage cars still around. Having said that one is still very low mileage.
Perhaps that's why he/she has decided to sell at this point? At current mileage it will still be attracting a significant interest and a premium above the norm. Another couple of years at that rate with the attendant wear and tear the miles will inevitably bring....???
But I'm not taking any issue with those miles in one year...It's just that I imagined that when sold last year it
was destined to be a car tucked up and used very sparingly. At the time I was only aware of one 840Ci Sport with lower mileage. Clearly that hasn't been the case but I'm not criticising the owner for doing it...just a little surprised.
On the contrary, it's people like me who one might have greater grounds to criticise for not using their car for its intended purpose...which afterall is driving it!
In fact, if it's dry tomorrow you've made me think I should take mine out. Of course, now I've said that it'll probably rain until June!
It's truly Scandalous how the trade value these 8's, £7k for a 99 840 has got to be legalised robbery, to any admirer of this type of car i am sure your estimate of £14k could be realised,& that really puts it in a nutshell, the trade are not interested in these cars unless the odds are heavily stacked in their favour

However, lately I've also seen a couple of non-specialist traders shoot themselves in the foot on a couple 840's which certainly going by the descriptions in the ads were certainly worth more. I'm sure that was simply because they were aware that although small there is definitely a market for really good examples.
I think trade values are low as they are not really main dealer cars anymore and unless its anyone like Munich Legends or similar folks they are frightened by the recon and are weary of how big a market there is for them, or feel they have to price them low to get a quick sale
Most peoples mindset is big ageing coupe with high running cost = Needs to be Cheap to sell
Due to the costs involved in running them, anyone with any sense will buy the very best the can, so I think its fair to say average to high miles cars and those that are only 'average' will sell at low prices to 'geezers' to continue there downward spiral
Same is true of 80s & 90s SEC & CL Mercedes Coupes... a cherished one is probably worth three times (maybe more) an 'Average' one
If you have an example you can sell with confidence the privately is deffienately the way to go

I like this one, cant see a mileage though.. Can see the number plate reflected in the puddle despite him trying to blank it out.
