Castle has two Cerb 4.5s for sale at the same price. One is an 03 (Jan) RedRose, the other an 04 non-RedRose

http://www.castlesportscars.co.uk/index.php?mod=se...

In looking at the TVR Power site the RedRose conversion looks extremely extensive and not trivial. What's your view and if you had the choice, which I do, which would you go for - colour combinations aside?

Many thanks in advance for your advice from a soon to be Cerbisti.

I would drive them back to back and see if you can tell the difference. If not then buy the one which you like the most (I'm sure you have a preference).

If it was me and they drove pretty much the same bearing in mind I don't think any 2 cerbs drive exactly the same even of equal theoretical spec I would lean towards the newer one mainly beacause a) its newer and quality improved as the years moved on and b) I prefer the interior even though it looks like a bitch to keep clean.

If the red rose drove significantly better I'd buy that one.

not really been much help there have I? smile

Sensible advice - you've been a lot of help, thank you. I hear some people say there's no difference between a redrose and a non redrose, and others tell me the differnce is profound. Guess I'm about to find out.

As often quoted here, buy on present condition. questions like this are only valid of new cars, of which cerbs are not!

If i was to try and buy a cerb again, this time around I'd probably go to a decent independent whom you trust, and ask them whats the best maintained cerb they know of, then id approach the owner and pay whatever they want, it would be well worth in the long run!.

Bought my Cerb from Castles, no problems at all. Michael Caine took me for a test drive, very enjoyable wink

If its any help go for the silver one, nothing to do with the colour cloud9.

Both these cars have been equally and meticulously maintained, they are both in perfect condition. What I think I'm starting to hear is RedRose ShmedRose doesn't make a difference, have I got that right? In other words if all things are absolutely equal except that one is a RedRose LWT and one is just a standard 4.5 then the decision would be down to just colour combination preferences?

Ish, the red rose's generally made more power standard, but a remapped/inductioned/exhausted standard 4.5 will only be about 20bhp down, and when you're into numbers as high as 410-430, it really wont make much odds...

The 52 plate is £5k over priced, 4 owners, last one for a year. You could argue the RR would add value, but £5k ?

The 54 plate is £500 under book (for a dealer) & 1 owner from new.

It'd be the 54 for me.

My thoughts exactly. Plus the interior of the 54 is the best colour combination but I am a little biased. Has the 54 had any suspension mods as standard shocks will start leaking?

Only visual downside is the radio aerial positioning, it totally spoils the rear.

Simon.

actually, I've just had a thought - may be worth checking who the previous owners of the blue car were... im wondering if its PH'er "Washy"s old Cerb, in which case - that would be the pick of the two - its got sorted suspension + packs a healthy 438bhp/380lb ft(IIRC) standard?!!

Agreed, what were they thinking? The standard antenna doesn't have much 'suck', but replace it with something like a glass-mounted one that's removable and don't drill holes in the car, FFS!

Worth remembering that blue ones are always faster though wink

Gut feeling by looking at the pics, Blue RR. The other doesn't do it for me. Plus that ariel... redface

The Titanio def looks more aesthetically pleasing - classy springs to mind (minus ariel of course), and the interior (having seen SimonKD's) is a beautiful combo. As for being a '54 plate, it'd be one of the last produced, so rare and desirable (also slightly biased).

Hmmmm, current feel always rules for me but intended use could be important. If you're going to have it as an occasinal runabout and a primary Track Rod then the blue RR but if it's going to be a frequently used tool then the later model.
My, unjustified, opinion is that RRs are handgrenades with the pin pulled.
My experience is that number of previous owners is irrelevant. Mine had 258 and it's the mutt's.
I think the year is irrelevant too in terms of resale coz you're going to lose 10,000 as soon as you take them off the forecourt. Resale will also be based on the same questions you're asking so go by individual feel.
It'll be very interesting to know what you decide.
Welcome to Cerbdom insanity anyway !

Drive em both, outwardly and for the money I'd have the later car. I think the blue is little over priced in comparison.

Hope you get a nice dry and unseasonably warm day for your test drives.

Don't worry about the strange facial disfigurement (aka "Cerbera grin&quotwink it wears off a few hours after getting out smile

Have you considered this one Jappo ?

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/280132.htm

You could get some decent upgrades with your £10k change smile A bit of haggling might make it £11k.

It's almost certainly going to be over 350bhp unlike the std 4.5, and you could always get a 4.5 upgrade to go with your nice 4.2 intakes.

If I was after another Cerb, it's the one that stands out to me.

Registered March 03, 2 owners, last one for three years.

Presume it's HPI clear ?

Saw this car and love the colour combo. What, if any, are the drawbacks of going 4.2 over 4.5?
