I came across a rumour that Jeremy Clarkson did the IAM a few years back, but keeps quiet about it because it doesn't fit the image he is expected to portray. Anyone know if there is any truth in this? If so, is it the IAM image that's at fault or his image?

I believe it is true, but with regard to image I don't think either of them are ideal. Somewhere between the two would be an improvement, although I think JC is nearer the mark.

Best wishes all,
Dave.

Well at least - if JC calls us a right bunch of middle-aged, pipe-smokers - errr- he's doing so from a position of knowledge. rofl

JC wants to appeal to the popular Chav. In the past he has suggested "run down anyone who gets in your way"
If he is indeed a member then I guess the IAM might ask him to leave

Maybe he did it because his insurers insisted he do some driver training?

Wouldnt suprise me if he had done some sort of training...I seem to remember back in the days of the old format Top Gear he would always hand over to Tiff for the fast driving but then on the new format Top Gear he could all of a sudden lay some rubber without being sick.

I do not know if JC has met the standard required of the IAM.
I so want to reveal the contents of a letter from Ted Clements, in response to a letter from me, mainly complaining about the standard of Police driving I had observed, yet also encompassing this area of motoring journalists.
Back in the early '90s and I couldn't say of course, without his permission.

I thought JC had always been scathing of the IAM, referring to advanced drivers derogatively as "wheel shufflers".

Maybe he did an IAM course, but didn’t like his observer rolleyes
