I remember reading a while back about another track in Germany somewhere where they have public open days a la Nordschleife, but it's a shorter track and they split the car/bike times alternately. Can't remember the name of the place though - can anyone help?

I'll check that, but as I recall the track I'm looking for definitely had "ring" in the title. I think it was in NE Germany. Even the logos for the website and at the track were similar to the Nurburgring.....

The salzburgrings so called Publikumsfahrten (literally 'public drives') are a bit different to those of the nuerburgring, you don't pay per lap but per day. They are cheap in comparison: 120 euros per day in 2008. Cars have to be street legal with road tyres (R-compounds are permitted), noise limit is 98 dB. Next trackday: 1st of may 2008.

Hope that helps. smile

sorry, no...

but the Hockenheimring evenings are fantastic.

20min sessions, rolling start, no rules! As close to racing as you'll get on a TD!

I have been to the Salzburgring on several ocaasions as it is not far away from munich (it is one heck of a drive from the uk though smile). At first it doesn't look that challenging but it is. Especially as it is quite fast. The fastest corner is approched in top gear and taken well above 200 kph (in a GT3). The rest is medium fast corners (some more technical than other's) and a chicane. If you going past that way, it's well worth a trip I'd say.

The "Touristenfahrten" at the Hockenheimring are also good value (paid per session), although there's no briefing or anything and in summer the track can be full of lunatics who, on any UK trackday, would see the black flag after their first lap.

Let me know if you need any more info.

How far from the 'Ring is Salzburgring ? Is it worth the trip and how long are the laps ?

Also, is there a web site ?

Miles away unfortunately, mate. About 400 km's I'd say. As I've said it's an interesting track, not sure if it justifies the travel if you are not going south anyway. If you need any more info, let me know.
