Been looking at purchasing a E46 B3 Alpina.

I just wondered if anyone off the forum has has one or has had any experience with them.

Also ive found it hard to find stats and spec lists so if anyone could point me in the right direction i would appreciate it.

I have an E46 B3 3.3 coupe. I think it's great but is always available at the right price!

A litre of oil every 400-700 miles depending on the way you drive it.

Can be a bit sluggish in auto mode as Alpina design them to get into top gear as quick as possible but lightning quick in manual mode.

Whats the mileage , owners , service history and spec

A friend of mine was looking at them and the only thing he didnt like was the gear change. Woefully slow in his opinion.

They are utterly sublime...

Look for either 1999 or from 01 onwards, there was a dodgy batch of 3.3 engines around mid 2000. The saloons are best buys at the moment - they offer complete Q-Car motoring, yet will keep an E46 M3 honest in a straight line fight.

280bhp, 250lb-ft, 160mph+, yet returns 32-34mpg on the motorway. Mine is as efficient as my E36 328i auto was as 28.5mpg overall.

The missus had a B3 3.3 coupe 2000 model switchtronic for about 2 years. Brilliant car. Phenominal grip and handling with the Alpina suspension, firm but compliant unlike M3's etc. Probably one of the best out of the box handling cars I have ever driven. The only down side was it was one of the batch of 2000 model cars with oil issues. 400 mile per litre. Pinked in the summer, was 45 bhp down on a dyno and I spent 3K trying to cure it. Gave up and sold it. Would buy another tomorrow but avoid year 2000 like the plague.
