Hi,

Does PistonHeads ever thought of running a chatroom?

They are fairly easy to set-up and run (IRC server with a web interface).

Yes. The idea has been raised several times and shot down in flames each time.

There is an internet outside of PistonHeads you know.

Good idea.

Its called the Pie and Piston.

Occasionally get some nutters in the other forums, but most are in P&P.

IRC servers are for peadophiles.

As said above, we have thought about ways to do this, but feel it isn't the correct direction at the moment for PH... though thank you for the ideas smile

Thanks for the replies guys,

I`ve ran several successful chat-rooms over the years (mainly engineering related) which have been (generally) free from nutters through good admin's - at the peeks I`ve had 100+ users in rooms with little hassles.

Due to the real-time nature of the chat-room its allows for much more rapid communication and a very good community.

If you ever change your minds let me know, I wouldn`t mind assisting in any way i can!

Cruft threads in P&P aside, PH has never really been about real-time - threads are far better at retaining information in a chronological and permanent basis to allow people to catch up on them at their leisure. Some threads have even been running on and off for several years.

I just don't think the transient nature of the chat-room really lends itself to PH. But obviously I could be wrong.

Dunno Jon, theres enough cocks in the P&P to sustain it.

Possibly.

But I do agree with all the sentiments above.
