May sound like a daft question, but what's the easiest way to jack a griff?...my Trolley jack won't go underneath at the front without hitting the underside before the front cross member...is there a low slung trolley jack about - I've a 2.5 tonne Halfords jobbie and have to jack one side under the sill corner, fit a low axle stand, then the other side, then the first again to raise the axle stand......

Get yourself a couple of planks Virgil and park the car on these if you know you are going to want to jack it up.
I've got a couple of off-cuts of fencing gravel board and it works a treat, but I've also used lumps of fence post too.
Also, cutting the leading edge into a bit of a wedge rather than leaving it square stops the car pushing it away when you're trying to drive onto it.

I have one of those low access alloy jacks, but from the front the body of the jack still fouls the bodywork.

As Ian says, short pieces of plank or similar , drive onto them and jack off( hmm or should that be jack away?)

Cheers guys, but last job was to re-fill clutch fluid, so no 'planking' possible.

Mmmm Clarke trolley jack - will take a look at ground clearance and see if this will fit the griff.

They also do a super low slung one for £100 which will go on the christmas list if not...

Don't understand that? I made my own ramps out off 'sliced' 8x2 I can do the sump / starter / slave quite happily without the fouled access you get with a jack or stands confused

Caravan levelling ramps. I've got a set and they give plenty of clearance for a trolley jack under the S2..biggrin

confused
I can actually push the Griff up onto a 1" thick plank. Well I don't push it as such, I pull on the wheel spokes and on it goes.
My trolley jack is a bit of a squeeze to get under sometimes even then, so I shove my shoulder under the nose and lever it up a bit. Lifting the weight off the shocks like this can get you another inch or so.

ETA: Thats a damned good idea SS2 thumbup

Thats the way to do it, 2 of us have wheeled mine up onto 4 X 2" no problem, just a bit of rocking, far easier (even if you have a nice rollbar handhold to push the car about with wink ).

I'd left it until there was no clutch action, so no chance of driving in anywhere, onto planks or ramps etc. Had to go straight up so I could get under to bleed it.

My drive is also slightly 'up hill', so pulling onto planks could be tricky...jacking for me def easier...some of thise nice 'touring car' built in air jacks would be nice...

This made me think of a story that still haunts me to this day. Some chap told me about a friend that lost all his fingers on the brake calliper when the car rolled forward whilst doing thisfrown

Sorry about that, just would hate to hear of anyone else doing the same.

It is worth the warning, but I tested this before sticking my hand in and twirling.
I have Estorils (15" F & 16" R) and there's no worries about trapping my hands - although TBH I still do get the willies a bit when my hands get to the caliper zones.
