Don't be tempted by a cheap on from Ebay, the one I was tempted by lasted 2 months.

The previous orignal item had lasted 7yrs & 55k miles.

If this helps -

FOR SALE

I've got one of these, that I never used..

A starter motor

I never used it because it was a failing battery that I had, not a failing starter motor.

It has sat in the garage, got a bit damp but should work OK.

If you want it, I'll take £49 all in, including delivery. If for some bizarre reason, it does not work, send it back to me and I'll give you your money back minus the cost of posting it to you in the first place.

Hope this is of some help - you can email me if you want to do this.

Cheers
Lazy

No probs. I removed mine the other evening. Might try cleaning it out first, it seems to have a lot of oil around it from when I had a rocker cover gasket leak. Maybe its full of oil which i guess won't help! smile

Years ago as a kid my starter motor on a Peugeot needed new brushes etc, the maintenence guy at where I worked suggested taking it apart and leaving it in a bucket of parrafin overnight - works wonders thumbup and gets all the parts truly clean.

Thinking about it, you must have to subsequently do something to clean the parrafin off but I cannot recall what after 20 years sorry frown
idea White spirit maybe ?

Hi Lazy,

If the other Guy does not want it I'll take it at that price.

Thanks
Leigh

Leigh - I'll get in touch with you tomorrow. I need to check with Ed first as I think he ordered one before I put this 'ad' on here. If he's sorted, its yours.

Cheers

My Speed 6 starter was very slow and wouldn't engage, I took it off and gave it a decent clean, since then it spins up much quicker and engages properly.

Thanks for the advise Tubbystu. I haven't got around to cleaning it yet this weekend, family things, but hopefully tonight I will strip it down and see how it looks.

It's going well but slowly.
Had more to do than expected on the support vehicles.
Plus was harder than I thought to get an engine at the right price, that had not done < 100,000's of mile.

It's all still on schedule though I hope.

Minus point: unexpected expense of the new starter motor & fitting it

Bonus point: boy it sounds good on start up !

EdT, where did you get your starter motor from in the end, in case my clean out idea doesn't work!smile

Glad its all back up and running again, I'm just getting myself a new battery as well. The current one is nearly 5 years old and so I thought I may as well replace that while I'm at it! smile

Thanks EdT.

I have my old one off, going to clean it all up at the weekend and see if that helps, if not then I will be getting one from TVR car parts too. They are a good bunch of guys there.
