I have been thinking about putting bigger wheels on my 88 Turbo. I'm told that because it has the inboard brakes (Citroen gearbox), the wheels that fit the later Renault gearbox with outboard brakes won't fit my car. Does anyone know of aftermarket wheels that will fit my car?

Any help information would be very helpful.

Thanks,

Mark

Hi Mark,
if you have an 88 Turbo (newer Steven's shape), you can upgrade the wheels. The inboard brakes are on the earlier cars. You will also have a Renault gearbox. You can upgrade to SE wheels, which will fit straight on, or there are a few other that will fit. What wheels are you thinking of?

Cheers,
Mark

The 88 turbo stevens shape had the Citroen Gearbox in the US, I think. I don't think they change over in the US until 89.

one of the G shape mebers will bw able to help.

THe USA Fed 88's will need a spacer for the rear offset if you try and use Esprit SE wheels.

If you try and use late model wheels you will also have to bore out the front wheels out a tad and the newer hubs are a few mm smaller.

The spacers for the rear are available for the 88's. I think I saw some in Marcus's website or SJ. It has been a while and I'm not sure which site had them.

Hi,

Thanks for all your help.

My 88 Turbo does have the Citroen gearbox, they didn't change in the US until 89. I am looking to put bigger wheels (17 or 18") on the car with low profile tyres (trying to bring the look out of the 80's and also get better performance).

Calvin, is it correct to assume then that I can use any wheel that will fit the Esprit as long as I use the spacers you mentioned? I have seen the Forgeline, Ronal and also some of the OZ wheels that I like.
