steering rack rod,(differences)

hi,just trying to find out what the difference between the two different steering rack rods are, one being 295mm and the other being 335mm i think, was it also a different steering rack and what was the affect of these to different rods, as much info as possible would be great, love the technical stuff. many thanks neal.
