Hi, I intend in next week or two to order either a Discovery 3 (probably an 2.7TD SE), or a Q7 (3.0TD S-Line). There's tons of feedback on the Disco on the L/Rover forum on this site and other dedicated forums, but I'm struggling to find much on the Q7. I've searched these forums and not found a single hit on Q7 (not sure if search working properly?) - is there something I should know ?!?

Anyway, anybody own/run a Q7, any comments, good bad or indifferent?

I've got one of each in the household - they are very different cars. The Q7 replaced my wifes previous Cayenne and is in a different class to that car altogether, - MUCH better ride, comfort, and quality of finish is unparalleled. The LR is a true workhorse with a little bit of luxury. The Q7 is a luxury car with a little bit of utility.

If I stayed out in the sticks where I live ALL of the time and needed a vehicle that I could simpy use and abuse it would be the Disco every time. Throw in some motorway work, fast A & B road's, and city driving though, and the Q7 is the weapon of choice - it is simply a much nicer, better finished, higher quality car and so far it has been faultless - the LR3 has been in the dealers at least once every three months (two years old now).

You probably need to drive both to experience the different approaches to the problem of a 7 seat SUV - this allied to your application for the vehicle will determine which one is right for you. You can't really go wrong - both great cars - but if you said I could only have the one - it would be the Q7 because it does 97% of the things better than the Disco - with the Disco shining in the 3% that is off-raod driving.

My experience is different. Yes I agree the Q7 is more car like to drive and a bit quicker than the LR3. However, the LR3 rides as well as the Q7 and is fine on the motorway, as well as A & B roads. Where the LR3 scores more points than the Q7, is practicality. For example: It is much harder to find a parking space for the Q7 due to being 5 metres long and 2 metres wide. When you reach into the Q7's boot, your clothes get dirty. This does not happen on the LR3 due to it's design. The Q7 is not as capacious as the LR3. IMHO, If you have a couple or more kids to haul around, the LR3 is better. I do agree that the build quality is superior on the Audi, however, we have had no problems with our LR3 and when you option an Audi to the same spec, the price is over 12k more.
