I guess I'm a bit late but can anyone recommend a hotel at Le Mans and provide any other useful info for two petrol heads' first visit. Thanks

First visit? Going to a hotel is not the way to do it. It's cheating. Camping is the only way to do Le Mans imho

Before the innevitable avalanche starts I'll second E36Guy ... camping is by far the best way to go, pref Houx where you can walk to the track and not worry about parking the c ... vehicle.

Now, did somebody mention a race?

Yes, sadly it finished in June but you may be in time for next year. :-) Dont waste money on a hotel, if you are sleeping for 3-4 hours per night (or less if you are a BORB) then a tent (without the rain) should suffice.
