Be warned the cop are out in force coming up to christmas in S. Yorks.

my other half got stopped and breathalysed yesterday morning in his works van.

Then last night I got stopped in the S near meadowhall and a very nice man (well he was polite) said they were carrying out testing asked if I had been drinking to which I replied no, he asked me if I had come from the arena again replied no, presumable cause he couldnt smell any alcohol he let me on my way biggrin. They had 4 policemen stopping lots of cars etc on both lanes so there was no sneaking through.

I'm all for it, my car (not the TVR) got hit by a drunk and then he drove off, it's a good job it's plastic and bounced off with no damage otherwise there would have been a case for a new wing.

I am all for getting drive drive off the roads, but

Raises the intresting question ?

How do you know if your safe to drive the next day ? and at what point in the day can you drive.

Its easy to know that when you go out, how much you should drink to stay within limit (although if I am driving I drink no alchohol at all - rather not risk it thank you)

Wife and I often have a Glass or two at home in evening, driving to work the next day I would be very surpised to get done, as I would have thought it out my system by then.

Wonder how long you should leave it the next day if you were to have a heavy session the night before ?

I know that if Ive been on the source the night before, I always make sure I have nowhere to go first thing, I always make sure I eat while drinking, eat when I get home/before bed (even if it is a slice or two of bread) drink water and have a good breakfast the next morning followd by a cuppa and a hot shower

Im fairly sure if you do a search on google, you will find the burn off rate for alcohol which would give you some indication as to how much you can safely drink the night before should you be driving, but as you said, its not worth the risk!

A very rough rule of thumb is that it takes about 1 hour per unit of alcohol to leave your blood stream.

If driving the following morning you really should not be drinking after midnight assuming a "reasonable" drink intake during the evening.

Mrs Unrep managed to write off her eurobox on Monday morning after an argument with some black ice and a concrete barrier on a back road near here. I went to the scene and called the recovery service and, as the car was safely off the road, decided to take her back home as she was pretty shaken up.

When I got home I decided to call the Police and tell them the car was there and that it would be recovered within the hour in case someone reported it etc.. Within 10 minutes of calling I heard the crunch of size 13's on gravel and saw a bobby walking up the drive. He had come "to make sure she was ok" he said. In other words he had come to make sure she hadn't been drinking. (She obviously hadn't and he didn't in fact breathalyse her).

I'd like to hope that they are as quick responding to burglaries.

funnily enough, Ive heard of this happening myself, but the guy who crashed had gone home obviously shaken up & had himself a large scotch to calm down only for plod to turn up and breathalyse and arrest him under suspicion of drink driving or something similar

She's fine thanks. She was very shaken up. On the positive side she gets a new car now. smile

In fairness the bobby was perfectly nice and didn't breathalyse her as I guess it was clear she was stone cold sober. But nobody else was involved and it was us that called the Police to report it as the "right thing to do". We could quite easily not have and given where it was it was highly unlikely that they would have known anything about it as the car was recovered within 90 minutes. It just seemed like a bit of opportunistic "lets see if we can get an easy nicking" piece of policing. As it was the copper wasted 30 minutes by the time we had dug out all the documents as I was not having the wife going through the ordeal of doing a "producer" at the station which was the alternative.

In this day and age being a good citizen rarely pays.

Moan bloody groan

---if you do and of course especially when you dont

No one turns up after you report it and the replies here would have been - "well they dont care about your welfare they only come if theres a ticket to give"

Paul - you live in a really fabulous part of the world where cops have time to do the nice things such as reassurance.
Enjoy it whilst it still lasts!
